ROSALIE

We follow the cobble stone path, which has small box hedges running along its side. This is a different part of the palace compared to where we were last night. There is a fountain at the end of the pathway with rose bushes, when I look up into the inky black sky all I can see is the stars, glittering above us. When we turn the corner a large glasshouse looms before us, with its large planes of glass, encased in white iron, glowing in the darkness. Large lavender bushes, and spring flowers loom over the path as we walk past them, can’t wait to see this place in the sunlight.

Augustine is standing at the entrance to the house with a wide smile on his face. His eyes drift down to where Greyson has his hand in mine, then back up to us, his face not given anything away. He looks handsome dressed in a black suit, with no tie, like Greyson is wearing, his blond hair slicked back.

“You look stunning, Rosalie,” he says, stepping forward and placing a kiss on each of my cheeks. “You better not have touched yourself this afternoon?” he whispers.

Biting my lip as my body comes alive under his touch, I shake my head before changing the subject. “Wow, this glasshouse is stunning.” I stare at the hundreds of candles that have been lit inside the doorway.

“It’s about three hundred years old this glasshouse. Over those years it’s been many things, such as greenhouse for the kitchen’s gardens, sewing room, and my personal favorite is my own private dining room. Come, follow me,” the prince says, taking my hand in his as we enter the glasshouse. The entire house is huge, one long rectangle shape with a point in the middle at the entrance. One side is bathed in darkness so I can’t see what it’s being used for while the other side has been set up for dinner. There’s a large rectangle wooden table, with a silver candelabra in the middle of it with a runner of red roses along the table which match the exact color of my dress. How did he know? All around us is a multitude of cathedral style candles everywhere. It’s romantic.

“Take a seat,” Augustine says, pulling out the chair for me in the middle of the table. I take my seat and he slides me in.

“Champagne?” Greyson asks.

“Yes, please.”

He pops the bottle and pours me a glass, then he does the same for each of them.

“This is all so gorgeous. I wasn’t expecting it,” I say.

“I’m glad you like it, and why shouldn’t we celebrate our engagement?” the prince states.

I look down at my engagement ring wrapped around the glass as it glistens in the candlelight, this is real. It’s happening. The man across from me is going to be my husband, the father of my children, the future king of this country.

Augustine raises his glass of champagne. “Firstly, I want to say, welcome to the family. Secondly, thank you for what you are doing for Greyson and me,” he says, looking across the table to where Greyson is sitting.

“I should be thanking you too, you are helping pay back my father’s debts and saving my sisters too,” I tell him.

“You’re two great people helping each other out,” Greyson adds.

“To the three of us,” Augustine says as we all cheers our drinks.

I take a sip of the champagne and savor the bubbles as they tickle my throat.

“I’m starving, I’ll start getting our food,” Greyson states as he stands and heads out of the room.

“I didn’t want anyone to disturb us while in here so Greyson will be delivering the food from the kitchen. I didn’t check to see if you had allergies or anything like that. Shit.”

His realization that he’s planned an elaborate dinner and forgotten to ask me if I have allergies makes me chuckle. “I’m fine, I eat most things,” I tell him.

“Okay, great. I wanted tonight to be special for you as we have much to discuss,” he states as Greyson walks in with three small white plates.

“First course is a garden salad,” Greyson states, placing the plates in front of us. It looks delicious. He then pours each of us a glass of water too.

“Enjoy,” the prince says as we all tuck into the salad. We eat in relative silence for a couple of bites before the conversation picks up again.

“Tonight, I wanted to formally welcome you to my family, Rosalie. But also, I would like to talk about how this arrangement will work between the three of us. I know I’ve spoken to you both individually, but I think we need to talk about it together, so we are all on the same page,” Augustine explains.

Of course, we have much to talk about. Augustine then goes on to explain how he and Greyson met, and how they grew up together because his father is the king’s bodyguard. It wasn’t until they were fifteen that things changed, they were playing a game of Spin the Bottle and were dared to kiss. When they did, sparks flew between them both and they were confused by it as the other boys who had kissed didn’t look like they enjoyed it like they did. The party was broken up and everyone was sent back to their dorms, and when they got back, they tried it again, and next thing they knew, they were exploring things with each other they never expected. They lost their virginities with each other while at boarding school. Greyson explained that he was hurt when he found the prince fucking someone in their dorm and they had a huge fight. That’s when they both realized they were still attracted to women and as teens didn’t want to stop that. They also said they started experimenting with men too, that they enjoyed both sexes equally. They explained that while they were younger, they had an open relationship, and that they dated other people over the years but were always drawn back to each other.

Augustine then explained how his family found out when they surprise visited him at boarding school and found them both in bed together. He explained his father was so angry, his mother was shocked, and Greyson’s dad was furious. They thought they were young and exploring things, that’s what they chalked it up to but when their relationship continued over the years that’s when his father put the caveat on getting married at thirty. He turned thirty a couple of months ago and here we are.

“Thank you so much for sharing all that with me. I’m sorry that after all these years you couldn’t be open about your love,” I say, taking a sip of my champagne as our main meal dishes are taken away.

“The crown would never have allowed me to have a child with an egg donor. I would have to abdicate, and they would pass it on to the next heir and who knows which of my father’s cousins that would be as my father was an only child. It’s similar to the situation you are facing,” Augustine explains.

“Things would be different if I was born a girl,” Greyson mumbles.
