Gabe:

Grab something and bring it to the fitting room.

I frowned. How the hell had he gotten in the fitting room?

It's better if you don't question these things.

I grabbed several dresses. Something that would take a reasonable amount of time to try on, and I was led into the back. Well lit, with each of the doors locked, and there was no one else in the store. "Take your time. Let me know if there are any undergarments you'd like me to bring to you as you're trying on the gowns. Is there anything in particular you're looking to wear for Mr. Tate?"

I lifted a brow. "Wear for Mr. Tate?"

She smiled. "Oh, before he walked out, he said to make sure that you picked up something pretty."

I rolled my eyes. "Well, if I do like anything, it will be for me, not Mr. Tate."

She cocked her head, gave me a nod of respect, and then left me to it.

I had no idea what to do. Was I actually supposed to try these things on?

I was too worried. They looked too delicate to wear, but the lavender one kept calling my name. It was a simple sheath dress, low cut, backless, but it looked like the way that it would sit would hug my body just so. And the material was luxurious. So soft. Like butter. I wanted to wear that one. Except not for him. For someone else entirely.

The doorknob jiggled slightly then quickly popped open, and there was Gabe. "Jesus Christ, how did you get in here?"

He shook his head. "Is that a real question?"

"I suppose not."

"How is it going?"

"It's fine, but how's the team?"

"That's the thing, they need more time. We need to stall."

"What?"

"Whatever you need to do, keep him here longer."

"Ah hell, I can't even suggest dinner, but a long night cap perhaps? But I thought we were getting everything we needed."

"Since the little trip to his office, I think he's been tipped off. Something is not quite right. Devlin and Rook are having a hard time breaking into the systems."

"For fuck's sake, Gabe, I want out."

"I know. And we're going to get you out. You just have to distract him a while longer."

"How?"

He swallowed hard, his gaze dipping to my lips. "We'll figure it out, okay? Even if I have to ram into your car, I'll buy you time, I swear to God."

"I'd rather that wasn't the case."

He shrugged. "Believe me, you're not going to do what you think you're going to have to do."

"Are you sure about that, Gabe?"

His gaze flicked to my lips again. "Yes. Over my dead body."

"All right, just tell me how much time they need, I'll do my best."
