“What are your limits?” He gripped her upper arms, and she let out a gasp.

“You can spank me if you feel like it.” The room was shrouded in almost total darkness now, but Brendan thought he heard a grin in Sonia’s voice. “Not too hard, and only with your hand. I’d like to be able to sit down tomorrow. And don’t hit me anywhere else.”

Brendan’s eyebrows shot up. “I wasn’t planning to.”

“How do you want me?” Sonia asked teasingly. “Angry and fierce? Meek and scared? Begging for mercy? Should I melt for you, or do you really want me to fight you all the way?”

A low noise left his throat. With every word she spoke, he was stripped more bare. But there was also a wave of incredulous joy, like Sonia was taking his hand and pulling him into a candy store. Like she was some kind of fucking fairy, offering to grant wishes he hadn’t even known he had.

“All of it.” He gave her arms a squeeze. When his hand moved to curl around her throat, her pulse beat fast under his palm.

“Brendan—” Sonia said quickly, her neck arching in his hold.

“Mm-hm?” He couldn’t resist drifting his fingers down to graze her breasts. Her tits were so damn perfect.

“Be careful in the dark. I don’t want any injuries. And you can stop this any time, you know. It’s not just me with the safe word. If you’re uncomfortable — I’m guessing you’ve never done this with a girl before —”

“Sshhh.” Lifting her chin, he gave her a soft kiss. The last of the light was gone, leaving them in darkness. “I didn’t know you could be so thoughtful, Sonia. But don’t worry about me. You’re going to be a lot more uncomfortable than I am soon.”

Her breath quickened. “We’ll see about that.”

His voice hardened. “Go.”

Sonia’s feet pattered off, the sound fading almost immediately. She was stealthy, silent…and barefoot, Brendan realized.

Easing off his shoes and socks, he wondered why the hell he’d bothered changing his suit.

He counted to twenty, dropped his suit jacket, and took off.

Darkness surrounded him. He smelled lilies and a hint of Sonia’s perfume. The wood floor was polished and smooth underfoot.

Once he left the entrance hall, the blackness was absolute. He made his way through what felt like a living room, his hands out to keep from banging into the velvet furniture. His heart pounded like he was the one being chased. When his palm hit a banister, he vaulted up the stairs.

When had he ever rushed like this? Even when he’d hustled on the basketball court, there’d never been this kind of urgency. He might not find Sonia in this house. She’d be gone. Vanished. Only a fantasy.

At the top of the stairs, he stopped abruptly and listened. He’d been crashing around like an elephant. That wasn’t the way to catch Sonia. Moving stealthily down a long hallway, he tried to make out her scent. The soft rasp of her breath, the patter of her bare feet.

Nothing.

There had to be another way.

If he couldn’t come to her, he’d make her come to him.

Strolling quietly downstairs, he felt his way over wood and carpet onto a cool, tiled floor. His hand slid over counters and cabinets until he met a smooth metal surface with a handle. Pulling it open, he stared into the fridge. The light dazzled his eyes.

This was clearly the refrigerator of a person who liked to cook. Labeled mason jars held homemade sauces. Fresh produce filled the drawers. Plastic containers of colorful food were neatly organized, and individual bottles of orange juice, water, and beer lined the door.

After weeks of living on takeout at the office and frozen pizzas at home, Brendan was transfixed by the beautiful sight.

His hand hovered over a beer. Thinking better of it, he chose orange juice instead.

Closing the fridge, he turned on the little light over the stove. After all, this was his fantasy. He could change it up if he wanted.

Then he waited patiently, drinking his juice.

Long minutes passed, and he wondered if this was a mistake. But suddenly, a floorboard creaked outside the kitchen, followed by a whispered curse. He smiled.

A dark shape rushed through the kitchen doorway and stopped short.
