He tried for smoothness as he told her to get comfortable on his bed, but the truth was, he felt jagged and painfully aroused.

Picking up the remote from his dresser, he scrolled through streaming movie options.

“Got it.” He snapped his fingers. “Groundhog Day.Ever seen it?”

Curled up on his bed in his T-shirt, Sonia shook her head. He settled behind her, draping an arm over her waist.

“My dad loves this movie. He made me and Ian watch it when we were about fourteen. We were too young to appreciate it, but now it’s one of my favorites too. This guy goes through the same day over and over again. He’s cynical as hell. He feels nothing and tries to game everything, but in the end, he—”

Twisting around, Sonia clapped her hand over his mouth. “Don't tell me.”

“Mmmph?”

She pulled her hand away. “I hate spoilers.”

“I thought you hatedsurprises.”

“Only in real life.”

“Okay, no spoilers. Cross my heart.” Brendan drew an X with his fingertip over the left side of her chest, where his college logo decorated the T-shirt.

“That'smyheart.” Sonia skewered him with a glare.

“Oops.” He grinned.

A reluctant smile tugged at her mouth until a laugh broke loose, lighting up her eyes.

God, you’re beautiful.Brendan didn’t realize he was staring until Sonia looked quickly away. But as the opening sequence showed the February weather report, she snuggled into the circle of his arms. “By the way, I still have a plug up my ass.”

“Do you want to take it out?” he murmured.

“That’s up to you.”

“Are you uncomfortable?” He brushed her hair off her forehead.

“I’m definitely feeling it. But—” She tilted her head to look into his eyes. “I like wearing it for you. Even if we’re just lying here watching a movie.”

He smiled. “Then keep it in.”

She made a satisfied little noise. “Are you pleased with me for wearing it?”

“Very.”

Sonia was silent as the movie unfolded. Brendan couldn’t help watching her instead of the screen. He’d already seen it a million times, anyway. When she laughed, he felt successful. When she gasped, her excitement sparked his. When she pounded her fist on the mattress, growling, “how long will it take him to learn?” Brendan snickered.

As the ending credits rolled, Sonia leaned back with a satisfied sigh, resting her cheek against his chest. “He finally got it right.”

“Yep. That’s what I like the most. He fucks up over and over until he’s able to figure it out. He breaks the pattern.” Sonia’s dark hair was rumpled, a few short pieces sticking up. He smoothed them down , but they sprang back again. “You know, I never would have predicted this.”

“Us, watching a movie?”

“Cuddling.”

She smiled. “Me neither.”

He stroked her hair, getting lost in the softness. After a while, his hand wandered over her cheek and down her neck. When he gently squeezed her throat, she purred.

“You like that?” he whispered.
