Linda set a plate in front of me.Delicious.

I tucked into my food. “Will these guys really answer my questions?” I asked Ryder.

Ryder shrugged, “Depends on the guy. Depends on the questions.”

“So don’t waste questions or time,” I surmised.

“Exactly,” Ryder agreed.

While I finished my breakfast, and Ryder and I sipped our coffee, the brothers filed out, on their way to work or wherever they spent their days, all of them stopping by to speak to Ryder and all of them at least giving me a chin lift if nothing else.

It was a start.

Chapter Nine

Don’t Imagine She’s Easy

Gate

“Shoulda been put to a vote,” Talon said as he prowled Gate’s office.

“Wasn’t a decision about revenue, a rival club, or a brother. Used discretion and made a choice. She’s cool. Don’t see what your problem is,” Gate replied.

“We flyunderthe radar, Gate. Not on the front page. That’s how we’ve always worked,” Talon growled as he continued to pace.

“You gonna let me explain? Or you gonna keep bitchin’?”

Talon propped against the wall and crossed his arms over his chest. “Go ahead. This oughtta be good.”

“The club isn’t gonna be anywhere near the front page. It’s all anonymous. And I have final approval of what she writes.”

“So you two talked about this?”

“What’d you think? I just opened the door and let her fine ass waltz in here? Of course, we talked about it and came to an agreement. Jesus.” Gate shook his head like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“But what made you say yes to a woman who wants to nose around in our business?” Talon argued.

“Did youseeher? All that hair and all those curves? And she’s smart. Brothers’ll be fighting over her within a week, and she’ll have her pick.”

Talong scowled. “I don’t want her here.”

“Are we talking about the same woman? Nobody’s gonna complain about lookin’ at her, that’s for sure.”

“You throwing your hat in that ring?” Talon asked.

“Not looking for an old lady, but I was, I’d be all over her. No question,” Gate answered.

“Old lady?” Talon’s face registered shock.

After Anna, Gate had sworn he’d never have an old lady again, and for fifteen years, he hadn’t even come close.

Gate grinned, “She’s a live one. Wouldn’t expect her to settle for anything less. She sure ain’t empty. Don’t imagine she’s easy either.”

“That’s where you’re wrong,” Talon said, pushing away from the wall and falling into a chair across from Gate.

Gate narrowed his eyes. “What do you know about her?”

“Remember a few weeks ago when I rode out to meet someone?” Talon asked.
