An uncomposed symphony.

Reminding himself to come back and poke around the equipment later, he hurried over to the elevator, stepping through the door Thane held open for him. “This is some place.”

“It is. Your guy here did an amazing job with the rebuild. I don’t think any of us believed we’d recapture the heart of Avalon after the explosion, but somehow, Evander made it possible.” Thane smiled at him. “We’re grateful for it.”

“The heart wasn’t in the building,” Evander said, setting Callie down as her writhing grew petulant. “It’s in the people who love what Avalon stand for.”

Eli scowled and stepped forward to grab her hands as she groped between her legs, attempting to remove the clamp herself. “Leave it, minx.”

“I need…I need…” A sob turned her voice to a whisper.

“We know. We’re going to give you exactly what you need, when it’s time.” He felt the elevator ascend. “Just be patient. Breathe through the sensations, Callie.”

“It’s timenow.” She stomped her foot.

The door slid open onto the second level; Eli bent and braced his shoulder into her belly, folding her unceremoniously over his back. A small fist pounded his ass; he ignored it and carried her out.

The middle of the floor was open, looking down onto the scenes below. Glass barriers surrounded the hole, high enough to prevent an accidental fall, but just in case, a thin net spread over the empty space.

Around the edge were the private rooms, some with green vacancy lights, some with occupied red.

“Braun booked you number six,” Thane said, taking charge and hobbling in front. “As requested, the automated safeword system won’t come online when the door locks. We’d appreciate it if you didn’t let word spread around that we can do that—despite stringent background checks on members, there’s always an unscrupulous one who’ll try to test the security.”

“Our lips are sealed,” Evander assured him.

“I have no doubt, but it’s worth making a point of it.”

Callie bucked and wriggled, her nails digging into Eli’s back through his shirt. “Put me down! Take it off! Daddy Eli, please!”

He tsked loudly. “Is it bad enough for you to use your safeword, minx?”

She muttered something under her breath.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that. You’re free to use your safeword, if the discomfort is truly unbearable. Just remember what happens to liars.”

She went limp, her fingers clutching his shirt now instead of gouging holes in it. “I don’t need to safeword, Daddy Eli.”

“Good girl.”

Thane opened a door, standing to one side to let first Eli, then Evander pass. He stepped in after them, closing them in with a subtle snick of locks. “Okay, I’m on corner duty tonight. I’m not going to interfere with anything you’ve got planned. I understand you’re pushing hard limits?”

“Yes.”

“What?” Callie demanded.

“Under different circumstances, we wouldn’t poke the bear,” Elias explained, giving her a reassuring pat on the thigh. “However, given this morning’s incident with Atticus, we feel it’s proactive to work on deactivating the triggers she associates with certain implements.”

“I said I was sorry!” she cried, her legs kicking as she attempted to slither free.

“Babygirl, you went for Att’s throat this morning, then cowered like a whipped dog when he picked up the belt. That’s a trigger. It needs to be dealt with, so that you—and others around you—are safe in the presence of a goddamn leather strap.”

“He was going to hit Alicia!”

“It was a prearranged punishment, consented to by both parties.”

She growled, kicking her feet against Elias’s upper thighs. Recalling just how quick she was with those lethal weapons, he gave her a resoundingthwackon the ass with his palm, making sure she felt the sting through the dress. “Enough, Callie. Settle down.”

“She doesn’t seem delighted by the idea.” Thane frowned thoughtfully.
