The motorcycle jolts forward, and her grip around my waist tightens. A thrill shoots through me. There’s something intimate about having your girl pressed against you on the back of your bike. It’s something I can imagine us doing on the weekends. I accelerate out of the parking lot and onto the street, a small grin on my face. She follows all my instructions on not moving and leaning when I lean. Normally, I’m either by myself enjoying the fresh air and clearing my head or I’m with Jay and Archie, but I can see rides with Olivia becoming a regular thing.

We ride our way through the city until we reach the edge of town. Up ahead is an enormous building with a glass front. A giant sign is near the road with a motorcycle sitting in the middle with the Harley Davidson logo on top. We take a sharp right and I pull into an empty parking spot near the front door. I tell her to hop off and I lower the kickstand and do the same. She follows me up to the door as I hold it open for her. Since this place is basically another home away from home, I weave through the aisles right to where we need to be. I pluck a matte black helmet off the shelf, check the size, and tuck it under my arm.

“Ready?”

“Your idea of shopping and my idea of shopping are way different.” She laughs.

“No point wasting time. I got what I needed.”

“Alright. I’ll follow you.”

When we get outside and next to the bike, I shove the helmet on my head and she does the same.

“There. Are you happy?” I smirk.

“Very.” She runs her fingers along my chest and rises to her tippy toes, placing a quick kiss on my lips. “Let’s see what this hog can do!” Her smile shines as bright as the summer sun.

“Just call it a bike.” I shake my head but my lips pull to one corner. I straddle the seat, and I direct her to the side as I reverse out. Then I start the engine and motion for her to climb on. Once she’s seated, I give it gas and roar down the road.

As the motorcycle jolts forward, my grip on Ledger tightens. I hug him so tight you wouldn’t know where he ends and I begin. We cruise the streets heading North out of town. He takes me on the road that snakes along the shoreline of Lake Superior. I’ve been on this road many times, but it’s different on the back of a bike. The warm sun shining down, breathing in the fresh air, my arms wrapped around Ledger. I can’t help the smile that takes over. When I glance in the side mirror, Ledger’s lips tip up into a small smile of his own. When we come to a stop sign, he turns and asks if I’m doing alright. I nod, my smile growing bigger.

An hour up the shore, he pulls off onto a narrow paved road and stops at a locked metal swing gate. He plants his feet on the ground, digs into his pocket, and pulls out a key. Turning his head to the side, he asks, “Can you jump off, unlock the gate, and then close it again once I pull through?”

“Yeah.”

I climb off the bike and grab the key from him. Once it’s unlocked, I push it open. He rolls the bike through, and I secure the gate before hopping back on. The single lane path meanders through the tall pines. Shimmers of light dance on the forest floor through small openings in the trees. We reach a large clearing that sits on a cliff overlooking a small private lake. He comes to a stop and turns off the bike. I climb off and remove my helmet, wanting to get a better view. Ledger is only a few steps behind me.

“What is this place?” My gaze wanders over the crystal blue waters of the lake and the steep cliff that covers one side.

“This is a piece of property a friend owns.”

“And he knows you’re here?”

He moves to stand beside me. Our arms brush against each other and I look up at him. “He’s given me free rein to come up here whenever I want. That’s why I have a key. It’s a great place to come for some peace and quiet.”

I inhale a deep breath of the crisp, refreshing air. You can’t get this in the city. “It’s beautiful. And you’re right. It’s so quiet up here.”

“It’s just us and the sounds of nature.” He steps to stand behind me and his arms wrap around my waist. I snuggle into his chest. He uses the opportunity to press a kiss on my neck. Even that slight touch causes my nipples to pebble. I inhale a small gasp when he runs his tongue over the sensitive area right below my ear.

I hum in pleasure before saying, “I bet I could scream your name and no one would hear.”

“Only some birds, squirrels, and possibly a moose.”

I freeze and then rotate in his arms. “There are moose here?”

“Occasionally. I’ve seen a few down by the lake before.”

My gaze wanders down to the lake. From up here, it looks like a long way down.

“Can we go down there?” I point down to the clear blue water.

“Yeah. There’s a trail that zigzags down to a small beachy area. Let’s go.”
