“We can talk, Bruno, but you have to promise you won’t get her involved,” Marco offered, getting a snort in response.

Bruno? Must’ve been a family member. Bruno Franzolli. Alright.

“So that dinner,” I mused, hoping I could derail the tension.

“We are not staying long enough to enjoy a meal or a conversation. You are coming with me,” Bruno demanded much to my dismay. “I’d prefer you came willingly.”

“He’s mine,” I huffed, puffing out my chest. As ifIcould intimidate such a guy. “He’s not allowed to leave. Not until his job is done.”

Stepping forward, I didn’t expect the guy to take a step back. Maybe I came off scarier than I thought. Then I noticed a gun hovering above my shoulder.

Marco was pointing his stupid gun at the guy. Here I was trying to calm everyone down and now the threat of violence threw that right out the window.

I shouldn’t have returned that gun.

Bruno was scowling again, those meaty claws of his balling up into tight fists. He didn’t look like the type to shoot a weapon. Opening his mouth to speak, a new voice joined the group.

“Bruno?”

The sound of a car door opening and shutting disrupted the still air. I tilted over to see a woman. A small thing with big blue eyes. She looked more scared than I did. If I had to guess, she was looking at Marco’s gun.

“You fucking brought some woman with you?” Marco asked in disbelief. He frowned when I took the gun away from him without asking.

“She insisted on coming,” Bruno huffed before twisting to look at the woman. “I told you to stay in the car.”

The woman crossed her arms, not showing a lick of fear toward the giant. “You promised me you just wanted to talk. Why did he have a gun?”

Oh god, the woman was a blessing in disguise. The moment Bruno’s demeanor extinguished, I knew we stood a chance. Everyone had a weakness and clearly, the woman was his.

“I’m Frankie,” I called out, introducing myself to the woman. “Welcome to my home.”

She looked at me, a smile stretching on her lips. The peacemaker. Hell yes. She approached us, hooking her arms around the guy’s arm. “I’m Lily, Bruno’s fiancee,” she beamed.

Marco scoffed behind me in disbelief. I must’ve been missing something here, but that was fine.

Clearing my throat, I kept my smile plastered on my own. “If you just wanted to talk, I already made the offer for dinner–”

Bruno looked ready to decline all over again but Lily gasped.

“I amstarving. We have to stay, right?” She craned her neck, giving him one hell of a pleading look.

Well, even giants could be tamed. Marco stared at them in disbelief as much as I had.

“We’ll talk, we’ll eat, and then you are going to come with me,” he finally spoke, frowning at Marco.

If Marco was going to leave, then so was I.

Marco

“Seriously? How in the hell did you find a woman who can stare at your ugly mug for longer than a minute without running away?”

Bruno glared in my direction. “It’s complicated. Where in the hell have you been?” he asked, eyeing me up and down.

Wearing a sweater vest and slacks, I didn’t exactly look like myself. He made it clear with his judgemental stare.

We were sitting at the table while the women spoke in hushed voices. With this Lily woman’s help, I might enjoy my first meal in a long while. Though, I had gotten quite used to Frankie’s cooking.

“I’ve been here,” I answered. I wouldn’t tell him about Frankie kidnapping me, not until my ass was in the clear. I had no intention of dragging her down with me. “How’d you find me?”
