Opening her mouth to say something, a ringing suddenly went off. A timer?

The woman, Frankie, looked behind her. Seeing her mouth a curse, she abandoned me all alone in the room much to my dismay. Of course, I soon smelled the reasoning behind her disappearance.

Marco

Frankie took forever in the room, probably taking her time stalling since I now knew her identity. While names meant everything, I honestly didn’t give a shit who she was. I needed Jimmy Lawerence, not some family member.

When she returned with two plates, I only looked at her nervous expression for a few seconds before eyeing the plates.

“You aren’t going to poison me, are you?” I asked after she set one of the plates on the ground and slid it in my direction.

Baked chicken with vegetables. Not terrible I guess.

“You’ll just have to wait and find out,” she half-joked before sitting down on the floor in front of me. So close, yet too far from my reach. It was like she was teasing me. Just another few inches.

My captor only needed to lean in my direction, and she’d be within my radius. I could get my phone and make the calls needed. If I moved quick enough, I could snatch her wrist and yank her body in my direction. At that point, she’d be completely defenseless and the tables would be turned.

“You know, even if I let you go right now, I’ll just disappoint you with the truth. The guy you’re hunting for isn’t my uncle,” she explained, stabbing her fork into her chicken.

I squinted at her, hoping to spot any signs of her attempt at lying. Unfortunately, I couldn’t tell this time around. Her words were impossible. She couldn’t have been telling the truth.

“That might not be enough to make me leave. I think I’d like to stick around actually. Free food and a place to sleep, can’t really beat that,” I half-joked. I didn’t expect her to laugh. Shouldn’t have enjoyed the sound.

“The menu is limited, and the carpet needs a good cleaning, but whatever you say. Might as well get comfortable.” She shrugged her shoulders. Despite the dismissal in her voice, she held a light smile.

“Do you get many visitors often?”

She lifted her eyes, a snort coming out. “I don’t think I should answer that.”

If I had to guess, the answer was no. I couldn’t imagine someone with a social life smiling at a man who planned on breaking into her home.

Shame to know no one was going to notice my existence. Just had to keep waiting around until a member of the Franzolli family came. Since they were taking their sweet time, I’d be better off freeing myself.

I took a bite of the chicken on the plate, immediately noticing how dry it was. Frankie needed to learn how to cook if I was going to have to be stuck eating her meals.

“Got anything to drink?” I asked, forcing the mouthful of food down.

Noticing my forced smile, she snorted. “Tell me how you really feel, why don’t you?”

I watched her set her food to the side before moving to stand. Eyeing her as she walked, I watched her disappear into the kitchen.

If I was lucky, she’d try to hand it over. The moment she entered my area, she was done for.

When she reappeared with a cup of water, my heart raced. My escape was looking more possible with each step.

“The best I have is water, I hope that is alright,” she explained as she made her way over to me.

Three feet, then two. Finally one. So close I could smell the smoke of her fireplace clinging to her skin.

What a joke. If Frankie could feel relaxed around me after only a few hours, she wouldn’t survive by the end of the day.

She planned on setting the cup down on the floor for me to reach. I didn’t even give her the chance to release the cup.

Taking my shot, I darted forward. Dropping the plate in my lap, I reached out and snatched her wrist. In a matter of seconds, the cup of water hit the floor and splattered both of us.

The moment I touched her, it felt like a shock of electricity had coursed through my veins. I didn’t have too much time to focus on the sensation.

I did not expect the woman to have such a low guard that she literally fell in my direction. A gasp left her lips as she tipped over.
