Mikhail snorted. “You don’t know me or you wouldn’t have said that. There is nothing that I can infiltrate, modify, or hack. Cian most definitely came to the right person. If you could hack it, you would’ve already done it by now.”

Is he as good as he says or is that just bullshit?

Strong arms wrapped around my waist, and my body was pressed tight against his chest. Damn his body felt good against mine. It was another reason I needed to get the hell away from him. This brutish, silent, considerate man presence did something to me.

What is wrong with me? How can I find his demeanor and hearing impairment sexy.

I opened my mouth but then the man at the desk got there first.

Mikhail narrowed his eyes. “I asked you where you got this.”

“I told you around.”

He leaned back and looked at his watch. “I know that you're lying because the Albanians don't leave their information lying around. They are a suspicious bunch of people. They use two-factor authentication when it comes to their data. A key is needed to get into this hard drive. Do you, have it?”

“No.”

Was Qemal the key? I’m about to die for evidence that I can’t access.

My mouth opened then shut.

“Mikhail, I know you can access it. Stop baiting her and do it. We have plans to go to Slovakia and time isn’t our friend.”

“Give me fifteen minutes. We’ll talk when I return.”

Mikhail stood, buttoned his jacket, and walked out of the office.

As soon as the door closed, Cian turned me to face him. “He’s smart but it’s obvious that he can’t help us. We’re wasting time here. We should go.”

“Do you fear him. I get it most people do but he can help us. We will wait and see. You should know that I won’t let anyone hurt you.”

My finger raked across my scalp. “How can you say that when your father might demand my head.”

He smiled. “Do not worry about my father. You shouldn’t worry about any man except me.”

He jerked me too him. His hand gripped my head, tilted it back, and placed kisses along the column of my neck.

I pushed at his chest “What are you doing? When your father demands my blood what will you do? Don’t make promises that you can’t keep.”

I narrowed my eyes. “You left out the part where you were going to give the evidence, I risked my life for, to him. Trust isn't something I give freely, it's earned.”

“You gave it to me. It means that you don't get to decide what I do with it.”

Asshole, you didn’t give me a choice.

“You said that you were giving it to your father, not to him.” In my anger, my tone and octave had risen. I wasn’t sure how he knew that because he was deaf.

His mouth tightened and there was a tick on his jaw. He raised his eyebrows. “I will hand it over unencrypted to my father, which has always been my plan. Table your fears. Have I let anyone to hurt you?”

Jerk. That doesn’t mean I believe your friends won’t find a way to somehow screw me over.

Cian had saved my life, and he continued to put himself on the line for me. There was something down to earth about him that made him likeable. It was hard to hate him, and that was a problem. In fact, I didn't hate him at all, but I should.

“Have I?”

I sighed. “Cian, had the power to hand me over to my enemies, kill me or use me as a bargain chip. All I’m saying is that I don’t trust easily. Because I do something for you, doesn’t mean I’ll do it for your friends.”

Mikhail came back into the room.
