Everyone in the car went still. They hadn’t been talking from what I could feel but the energy inside immediately changed.

“You are handicapped. No matter how you attempt to make up for it in other ways, you are still disabled. It’s not farfetched of me to want to protect you. You’re my son.”

I turned away from him to stare out of the window. It was a sign that I was done with this conversation.

He jerked me around. “No, damn it. You can’t go to Prague when I told you to come home. Felix is trying to kill you. Now you will have the Dragons trying to kill you too. What you’ve done will start a war. The alliance had already agreed to deal with them if they ever tried to regain their territory in New York. Now, they will come for us.”

I shrugged. “Let them come. Le ambushed me at the hotel. I had no choice but to play the cards I was dealt to stay alive. I was able to recover some intelligence that might aide you in your dealings with the Albanians.”

“Bullshit. Mikhail told me they came to rescue you but you came back here willingly. You’d already taken the information from Cun’s house, which is why I don’t understand why you came here tonight. Who was that man you killed?”

Without warning, he slapped me across the face. My lip busted and blood ran down my chin. Glaring, I wiped the blood off with my sleeve. Liam took out a Cuban cigar and lit it.

“Dad, I killed many Vietnamese men back there.”

“The man who’s dick you cut off. Who was he?”

“His name is Nguyen Quoc Loi. I won’t speak on what he did, but it warranted a cruel death. He received a quick one tonight.”

Ben took the highway. I noticed that he went in the opposite direction. He was taking us further from Mikhail’s safe house.

“Ben you’re going the wrong way. Mikhail’s spot is the other way.”

Liam smiled. “You’re not going back there. We’re leaving this back water country now. Mikhail knows that you are heading back home with me, where you belong.”

Keelan had been shooting me sympathetic looks ever since I got in the car. Now, I knew why. My father intended to separate me from Anya. I wouldn’t have gotten in the car had I known that he would do this.

I narrowed my eyes. “What have you done to Anya?”

My father tightened his muscles. “You’d better fix that tone. I haven’t done anything to the scheming little bitch, but I plan to. Mikhail will deliver her to me later when they fly back to the States.”

My father and I had a problem, and it wasn’t a new one. It was a problem that we fought over all the time. He was determined to treat me like a disabled, useless, sack of bones, who he talked to like a child. I wasn’t a kid anymore which was why I stayed in Ireland, and he lived in New York. It was better that way. The increase in the hits on my head made him uncomfortable.

By the time we reached the private airfield, and boarded our plane, I was exhausted. My father hadn’t stopped complaining about Anya and me. For the hundredth time he had forbidden me from being with her. It was too late, she was mine.

I turned my head and looked him in the eye, as the plane took off. “It’s too late. We are already together. Hating her father has nothing to do with her.”

As the Don, it was impossible to argue with him in front of anyone but I wasn’t backing away from it. If he truly couldn’t stomach me being with her, we could move back to Ireland. I wasn’t opposed to putting distance between my father and me.

There’s nothing I can do that will make up for the fact that my ears don’t work. He will always see me as a weakling.

Liam smirked. “I can always kill her. There’s nothing short of her carrying your child that would make me stay my hand. Don’t worry, I plan to get a pregnancy test as soon as she arrives. You might trust the beautiful liar but I don’t.”

Leaning my head back, I closed my eyes. My thoughts drifted to that kiss we shared. I couldn’t wait for her to arrive at the house, but not for an interrogation session.

Would she smile when I show her the picture?

It was for me to see any kind of happy expression on her face.

I kicked Keelan’s seat. “Let me use your phone.”

He slid it from his pocket. “Here.”

Liam grabbed the phone. “Rest, you look like shit. You will see her in a few hours.”
