“Mikhail, you could never produce this plan. I’ll need to hear directly from Viktor before I make my decision.”

“That is impossible. Viktor had something to take care of, but he’ll be back to talk to you in person soon.”

My father narrowed his eyes but nodded in agreement. “You also haven’t addressed what will happen if they implant that bomb in him before you get him back. Who's going to shadow him?”

He smiled. “The same person who created the device and sold the technology to the criminal world. He will remove it if it is implanted.”

“Who is that?” asked Liam.

“Viktor of course. You should also know that all of the Vinogradov’s are capable of implanting and deactivating the device. Vik will do Cian’s if necessary.”

“He created that shit?”

Mikhail laughed. “Are you really surprised? Who else is brilliant enough to produce such a diabolical thing? The Feds know that Cian and I were in Prague. Now, they want to focus on all of us. Viktor is gone because he's giving them the bigger fish. It will allow us to continue to operate under the radar. The FBI will be too busy celebrating their wins to worry about us.”

Who is the big fish?

I crossed my arms over my chest. If he gives them Vesim or Arkan our activities won't go unnoticed.”

Mikhail nodded. “Exactly which is why those two are not the targets.”

My eyes widened.

Viktor is a weird son of a bitch. That could only leave one man but it would leave him open to risk. Why would he risk himself like that?

“Call it off Mikhail. I’ll do what you need me to do but you can't allow Viktor to do that.”

My father frowned. “Cian who is the big fish?”

“Viktor is going to the Kadish Syndicate.”

The color drained from his face. Everyone knew the implications of that choice. Anyone with a brain knew that once you dealt with the Kadish family, you never got rid of them. They were the boogeyman underneath your bed. The parasites that infected everything in the world.

“Mikhail, tell Cian that he’s mistaken. Viktor isn’t that crazy,” said Liam.

He shrugged. “Cian is right. My brother is brilliant. Are you just now figuring it out? Cian let's go.”

Mikhail placed the whiskey bottle back on the bar and walked to the door. I thought my father would utter a protest but after hearing Viktor’s sacrifice, he was silent. He gestured for me to go while still standing there shocked. Everyone knew that when the rubber met the road, Viktor was the only one that would die for us all. Everyone loved the selfless bastard. It was things like this that he did without hesitation. It endured people to him. The man had a heart of gold and angel wings.

Walking outside my mind raced as I contemplated a way to stop Viktor from making the huge sacrifice. There had to be another way. After I slid inside the SUV, I turned to him.

“Viktor must be stopped. Call him now.” When Mikhail cranked the engine, but made no move to take out his phone, I pulled out mine.

I snatched it and tossed it in the back. “It's done. Why are you surprised? He knew that you couldn't allow Anya to get herself killed and she was going to if she approached Itzhak. Once you found out who had killed her, you would’ve gone to avenge her death. There would have been nothing Liam, I, nor Viktor could have said to you to prevent you from seeking revenge.”

He’s right.

“She's crazy but not even Anya would bargain with Itzhak.”

He snorted and pulled out of the driveway. “It was her plan to approach him. That was the last thing she told me before she was taken. The evidence that I put in her hand gave her the idea.”

This was all my fault.

I didn't know what was on the tape that I’d given her. I only wanted to gain her trust and show her that a man could keep his word.

Signing, I rubbed my temples. “Viktor always works out the kinks and formulates a plan that works for everyone except himself. When Itzhak realizes how brilliant Viktor is he'll demand access to him.

How many times can Viktor save all our asses before he realizes that none of us are worthy?”
