“My friends aren’t that easy to kill but you already know that. How many times have you attempted to kill them?”
“If I betray Cian, I’ll make sure that I don’t leave any loose ends.”
Laughing, I studied Le. “Says the man who allowed Cun to tape him. That's a big loose end.” He drew back his fist.
Pham grabbed it. “We can't damage him before they arrive.”
I felt a sharp prick. Pham pulled out the syringe from my neck.
My eyelids became heavy.
“Don't worry. I haven't killed you. This is just a truth serum. After we kill them, you're going to tell me who you are and everything that you know. You're not familiar to me but you have useful skills that I could use after I have your complete loyalty.”
He would be disappointed regardless.
Truth serums didn't work on me. It had something to do with the way my brain metabolizes substances and the serotonin in it. My brain was different from other people’s.

When I woke up again, they carted me out of the car. We were no longer in the fortress where they placed the bomb inside me. Pham had twenty men surrounding him. I almost laughed. He thought these men could kill Viktor. Viktor could kill all twenty of them by himself. The energy in the car had gone from carefree to serious as we continued down the dirt field road.
We must be close to the meeting point.
They began putting on bulletproof vests and taking out their guns. Le was smoothing his hair back and primping in the mirror.
Pham looked at me. “Get out. Walk to the front of the car.”
Lee sat on the side of me closest to the door. The nasty cock hound wanted me to climb over him so that he could sneak a few touches in. If he touched me, I was going to break his fingers.
He pushed him. “Move. I don’t have all day. Are you trying to get me to climb over you?”
Grinding my molars, I climbed over him and got out. Less than ten minutes later, two SUVs pulled up. We were in an open dirt field with two industrialized buildings on each side for cover. This wasn’t the best place for a shootout. Mikhail was in the driver's seat of the first truck. There was no sign of Viktor. The second car had tinted windows and it was impossible to see who was inside. Before Mikhail could get out of the car bullets started flying. Ducking low at the front end of the car, I looked for a weapon to protect myself.
Mikhail signaled for me to turn around.
Presenting my back, I waited for him to shoot off the handcuffs. When the handcuffs were off, he slid me a Glock. Pham was screaming like a bitch. I fired into the car, hitting Le in the forehead. Pham's men began firing with less accuracy. Their bullets were flying everywhere. Mikhail fired back at Pham's men killing four of them. I shot at Pham but he ducked. Three of Pham’s men jumped in the back seat of the car to become a human shield. He was screaming and yelling. The second truck’s door opened and Viktor walked out. The bastard didn't even have a gun in his hand. He motioned for me to get out of the way. I realized he held an explosive in his hand.
Viktor pulled the pin of the grenade.
Boom.
Body Parts flew everywhere. I opened fire on them before running toward Mikhail’s car. A sharp pain radiated up my shoulder blade. I had been shot. Pham smiled.
Boom.
Before my eyes, the entire car went up in flames. Viktor had thrown the explosive.
Mikhail frowned. “There are police sirens heading this way. We’ve got to get out of here.”
I was getting ready to get into Mikhail's car, but Viktor shook his head. We got in Viktor’s car. When we were a safe distance away, Mikhail pressed the button and his car went up in flames.
Viktor drove past the police. When he reached the residential neighborhood, our car blended with most of the cars parked on the street. In no time, he drove up the driveway and parked inside of the garage.
Viktor turned to Mikhail. “Get to the rooftop. The jet is waiting. We’ll be there in a second.”
“You knew it was a setup. Why did you come?”
He smiled. “I promised your father that I would. I'm a man of my word. I'll always be there for you. Sorry, I was late. Let’s get this piece of shit out of you.”
