I shrugged. “I’m not sure. Someone named Le Gia Kien was going to put me in his shipping container. I don’t think the Vietnamese were the ones to kidnap me because my captors spoke Serbian and Albanian.”

Boris frowned. “Felix, hold off. I have a contact there now. Let me reach out to him and see if he knows anything about Anya being there, and if the Dragons had anything to do with it.”

He frowned. “The Dragons? Who is that? Why would they make an enemy of me by kidnapping her?”

“I was told I was beautiful and I would fetch them a decent price. They wanted to put me in the next shipping container to sell.”

Boris shook his head. “It will only take me a few minutes to check out her story. In the meantime, look at the machine. If it isn’t red, she’s telling the truth.”

The door closed behind him, and I stared at my father. “Can you check my ribs. They are broken and I feel like I’m going to pass out. Can you give me a shot of insulin?”

His eyes were glued to the machine. He had perfect vision yet he was staring at the equipment like he couldn’t see that it was green.

Samira was right. My own father wanted desperately to kill me.

The plastic beneath my shoe soles wasn’t there for decoration, but to contain my blood. He had already made up his mind.

“It would be cruel of me to give you insulin when I might have to kill you.” He looked up. Setting the machine aside he scooted his chair closer to me. He wrapped his fingers around my neck, cutting off my air. The machine flashed red three times alerting him that my vitals were in critical condition. When I failed to react, he loosened his grip.

“You look confident. I’m not sure I’ll allow you to live. Why aren’t you begging me for your life.”

I shrugged. “I haven’t betrayed you but it doesn’t matter. You have the plastic down which means you intended to kill me all along.

“You did betray me. You met Samira behind my back.

How did he know about her?”

“Qemal told me to find her. I went to her to see if she knew anymore details about my rape. She was the one that sent the information to the authorities, and she was the one behind my kidnapping. She said Arkan trusted her. She was tired of loving a man who wasn’t loyal to her.”

Samira is dead but it might be common knowledge that she held some deep affection for Arkan.

“You had no business meeting her without me. That act alone is a betrayal.” He stood up and walked to the refrigerator. He took out two bottles of water. He opened one and started drinking.

The other water was placed on the table.

“How is that betrayal? I just wanted to know what she knew about the rape. I don’t think Arkan is innocent. He knew Qemal was going to rape me. At least she said he did.”

Boris walked back inside. “Her story checks out. My contacts told me that there has been great interest in Anya and that Le is willing to pay two million dollars to anyone willing to hand her over to him.”

Thank God for Viktor. Le was willing to pay two million dollars to use me as a pawn, control Cian, and kill the Vinogradov family.

“Father, now that you’ve found me to be loyal, can you untie me and call the doctor to check out my ribs?”

He stood. “I don’t know that for sure. I’m going to leave you tied up for a few hours and ask you some more questions to see if you’re lying to me.”

Clenching my jaw, I closed my eyes. “Are you going to give me a shot of insulin?”

Boris laughed. “Whoever beat you like this should be dead. You skin is darkening and you look like a raccoon.”

Ignoring Boris, I watched the bastards leave. Once the door was shut, I closed my eyes. My father was skeptical and I was certain that he had cameras in there. It was all a part of the interrogation. He would be watching me for signs of lies. The best thing I could do for myself now was to attempt to sleep.

A few minutes later, my eyes opened. I was in excruciating pain and my body needed insulin. My head lulled to the side, and I stared at the ceiling. Just when I was about to scream, my father walked through the door.

Before I could ask, he rolled up my sleeve and injected insulin in my arm. My eyes rolled back and I savored the feeling of life.

“Don’t even think about lying down. You’re going to go to your safety deposit box and bring back everything in it. Any secrets that you keep from me from this point on will be fatal.”

Shit. I almost got away with this mess. Now, I’m going to be exposed to the shit that’s in my safety deposit box. Great.
