He cut away the bonds, and I staggered to my feet. “Can I see the doctor before I go. I’m finding it hard to breathe.”

“No. You chose to steal the car and everything that happened to you was a result of your ungratefulness, disobedience, and selfishness.”

Bastard.

The truth serum was still in my system, so I wasn’t trying to talk. As soon as I reached the door, Boris was waiting for me. I walked over to him and waited.

“I’ll be going in there with you to make sure you give him everything in the box,” said Boris.

The gleam in his eyes suggested that he knew I had planned to run away. Rolling my eyes, I followed him out of the house. After I got in on the passenger side, I waited for the rest of the men.

When he left with just us, I frowned. “What are you doing? Where are the rest of the men?”

“Now you appreciate the men that guarded your ungrateful ass. I’m starting to think that your kidnapping was the best thing to happen to you.”

Turning away from him, I stared out of the window. I hadn’t seen anyone but I couldn’t help but wonder where Cian was. If he was all right. I destroyed his phone when Jayden gave it back to me. I didn’t trust them. I was certain that the Feds were watching just as they said they would. Traffic sucked and I was still having trouble breathing. Moving around was torture. I wanted to get into my bed, and sleep. By the time we arrived at the bank, my muscles were stiff and I could hardly move.

Wobbling out of the car, I walked inside with Boris on my heels. Nobody stopped him from trailing me inside the privacy area to get to my box. I took out my keys and opened the box. It was empty.

What is going on? Where is all my stuff? Cian must have taken it out of the box. Once again, he had saved my ass directly or indirectly.

He pushed me out of the way. “Where the hell is your stuff?”

I hung my head. “I had money in here. I don’t know. No one knew about this box. I’m not sure why my money is gone. It wasn’t much but it was mine.”

Boris narrowed his eyes. “Felix and I know about your box, so that means many people might have known about it.”

I placed my hand on my hip. “Did you steal my money out of here? I had money and some gifts that Vadim gave me. Now, my box is empty. Did you toss my things out so that you could show me how futile it was to keep a safety deposit box?”

Father wasn’t happy that my box had been emptied. I could tell that he wanted to beat me for having it in the first place. I walked to my room. I had asked several times for a doctor and each time he ignored me. He wanted me to suffer, and I was in severe pain. I locked my bedroom door and took off my clothes. My skin felt raw. Even my clothing irritated my injuries.

I climbed into bed. Pulling the covers over me, I closed my eyes. Despite my door being locked, I heard it open.

Boris sauntered inside. “Room check.”

Sitting up I glared at him. “What are you doing? My door was locked. Get out of here, I don’t have any clothes on. What do you expect to find? A man under the bed.”

“I find it odd that you haven’t asked about Mila.”

“It’s because I know you’re obsessed with her. There’s no way anyone could do anything to her without you killing them first. You’ve been her protector since she was four years old. You always know all there is to know about Mila.”

Boris was appeased for now, but he acted like he didn’t trust me either. “You look bad. I’ll get Felix to allow you to see the doctor.”

When he shut the door behind him, I didn’t bother locking it. I was a light sleeper. I had a gun in my drawer, and a knife under my pillow.

I was drifting to sleep when a calloused hand closed over my mouth. He rolled on top of me and flicked a lighter.

Grabbing his face, I kissed him. The light went out and he was kissing me just as forcefully as I was him. I came to my senses after I pushed him on his back. We had moved from kissing to touching, rubbing, and squeezing. His hand skimmed over my ribs, I flinched and collapsed on him, wheezing like an asthmatic.

“Did Felix or Boris do this to you? Who beat you like this? Your ribs are badly bruised,” said Cian.

“Neither. The FBI did it. I asked them to beat me so that my father wouldn’t kill me. Leave. Boris is doing random room checks. Tomorrow, they will let me see a doctor. I’ll get some pain medicine at that time.”

I pushed at his chest. “Leave. You can’t show up here. You can’t show up here. The FBI is watching the house. They secretly implanted me with a tracker. I don’t want you caught up in this mess. They are working on prosecuting father and Arkan.”

He cupped my cheek. “It will never happen. They have too many spies in the bureau. Your problem will have to be dealt with. You know that your father doesn’t trust you. He’s waiting to validate his suspicions. When he does, you’re dead.”
