When he was at the window, I grabbed him. “One last kiss.”

“No. This is your last night sleeping under the roof of your enemy. The next time you see me, I’ll be taking you away from here.”

CIAN

BEIRUT, LEBANON

It wasn't hard to spot the Feds that we're following Anya. I looked at the sky and tilted my face to allow the sunrays to warm it. I had been hiding on Felix’s property for six hours before Boris led her out with four men trailing behind them. She was still sore. Anya wasn’t the type of woman who complained so her ribs must have been really hurting which was why she asked her father to see a doctor. Just like she said, I wasn’t the only one watching the house. The tracker in her had to be removed. The government had no right to tag her like a dog. The only person I would allow to live was Jayden Asher unless his interest was more than platonic. Logan and Ethan would be tortured before being killed. The fact that they had beaten her was unforgiveable. Thanks to Felix, Maria and Kim had been found dead on the green line of the subway, in Prague. Tamsyn had perished in a freak gas pipe leak in her condominium. You would think that Logan and Ethan would drop the case and do whatever they could to live. Yet here they were at Felix’s house following Anya. They were lucky that I didn’t have time, or they’d be dead.

Anya got out of the car and slowly made her way through the double glass doors of the medical building.

She must still feel bad.

I Aimed my dart gun and shot several darts in all the tires.

Pop. Pop. Pop.

Those idiots would never even know that their tires were losing air. I adjusted my wide brim cap which hid most of my face. In my pocket, I had a gas bomb. It wouldn’t kill the agents but it would render them unconscious for a few hours. Making my way down the sidewalk, I stopped at the flower stand across the street. After selecting a mixture of pink and red roses, I handed the lady cash.

“Keep the change.”

It was still early and most attendants hadn’t arrived, including the doctors. The building was filled with primary physicians and gynecologists who did not have early hours today. I walked to the side of the van. I opened the back doors and tossed the bomb inside. Before they could react, I barricaded the doors and scurried away. A fleeting glance at my watch showed eight minutes had passed since Anya had entered the building. Boris hadn’t sent the men outside, which meant he was keeping a close eye on her. Thanks to Mikhail, I knew everything I needed about this building’s infrastructure. Taking my phone out, I stared at the screen.

Mikhail. She’s on the fifth floor seeing her primary care physician Dr. Owens. The best route is to access the floor directly.

Cian. There are five men. Are there any surprises I should know about?

She had her gynecologist put her on birth control and she asked for condoms.

I stepped out of the elevator. The hallway was empty, which surprised me. Turning the corner, I spotted Felix's men. All of them had a brooding expression mingled with an air of arrogance about them. The tallest man blocking the suite door, looked at me. I continued walking around the corner. Reaching another medical suite, I went inside. The lobby was empty, but there was a purse on the counter and a white coat hanging up on the rack behind it. Snatching the coat, I slipped back out of the door.

Walking back around the corner, pulling out my gun, I shot them. Thanks to the silencer no one was the wiser, and with Mikhail at the computer there would be no camera feeds for today. I quickly moved their bodies to a nearby janitor's closet. I entered the medical suite but there was no sign of Boris or Anya. I slid into examination room five and hid behind the door. Through the space between the door hinges, I saw Boris. He was texting on his phone. After glancing at the clock, he walked out of the office.

I rushed inside the last exam room and lowered my gun. “Get dressed. We need to leave now. Boris will be back any moment.” Walking to the chair, I tossed her dress to her, and walked to the door. I needed to make sure Boris didn’t sneak up on us.

She slid the dress on. “Are you crazy. We’re on the fifth floor. He will be back soon. I grabbed her hand and walked to the window. I grabbed the service cart and placed her on it.

She gripped the edges and looked down. “No, I don’t like this. What is plan b. We can shoot our way out. This damn thing is already swaying in the breeze. We’re going to plummet to our deaths.”

Ignoring her protest, I stepped out and grabbed the controls. “Trust me. You’re not going to die today.”

Boris rushed inside. I fired four shots, and pressed the button, dropping us at a rapid speed. As soon as we reached the bottom, I lifted her off and jumped out. Ducking, we ran around the side of the building to the garage. Sliding into the driver’s seat of the car, I revved the engine, and sped off.

Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang.

Boris continued to fire at us while running behind the car. The turbo engine kicked in and we left Boris. I didn't stop driving until we reached the airfield. Boris wasn’t stupid. He would guess that I was flying her out of the city.

Popping the trunk, I carried the three duffel bags. “You need to move faster Anya.”

She slammed the door. “I can't believe you just did that. That was reckless. I still needed to see the doctor.”

Two SUVs were quickly approaching. Running to her, I tossed her over my shoulder, and ran up the jet’s steps. As soon as I set her down, she retracted the steps and quickly sat down. Running to the cockpit, I started the engine, and accelerated down the runway.

Anya wiggled in her seat. “Have I told you that I find a man who can fly a plan sexy?”

A man jumped out and fired, however it was too late. The wheels were already off the ground. Unless they had a long-range missile, we were safe for now. I placed my hand on her knee. “You can relax. There’s a queen-size bed in the back. Why don’t you take a nap while things are quiet.”
