I rubbed my temple. My sister was pissed with me like I had the power to force our father to do right. “You’re upset. I can’t control Father any more than you can. At least tell me how Vadim is doing. Breaking up with him was the hardest thing I had to do, but at least he’s alive. Can you call him from your phone.”

Mila wiped her tears away.” Daddy killed him the morning after you went missing.”

I staggered back. The sharp pains in my chest were too much to bear. “You’re lying. Why would he kill Vadim. He knew I stole the car and left the party alone.”

No! This can’t be true.

Viktor walked over to Mila.

I averted my gaze. The last thing I wanted to do was appear weak in front of him. He wiped her tears.

“The pain you feel now, remember who caused it and use it. Don’t let Vadim’s death or your sacrifice be in vain,” said Viktor.

I stumbled backward until I toppled into a chair. My entire body was suffering from muscle weakness. The tears were bathing my face, and no matter how I wiped them away new ones instantly appeared. Closing my eyes, I tried to gain some composure so I could get through my sister’s wedding. Through my tears, I noticed that everyone had gotten into position so the wedding could take place. I wanted to go somewhere and hide. On the inside I was breaking down.

Strong arms wrapped around me. For several minutes I was able to steady my breathing and keep myself from fainting. The veins in my head throbbed and my vision was blurry.

Cian placed a kiss on the nape of my neck. “What’s wrong?”

“Father killed Vadim. How could he hurt an innocent person? Vadim never hurt a soul. He was pure in heart and deed, and now his death is on my hands. I could’ve protected him somehow, and I failed him. My own father took him out.”

He wiped my tears. “I’ll go to the bathroom and get you some tissue. Your father’s days are numbered.”

Cian disappeared back down the hall, and I turned to see Viktor preparing them to be married. If he didn’t hurry, he would miss Mila and Viktor exchanging vows. Viktor inclined his head, and a clear bulletproof enclosure was placed around them.

Father Chen looked so uneasy he appeared constipated.

Once they started to exchange vows my mind drifted to Vadim. There was no way I was going to let my father get away with murdering my boyfriend. The FBI already had evidence that connected him to the businessman’s murder, but that wasn’t good enough. Felix would learn he wasn’t untouchable, hell nobody living was.

“Mila, look into his eyes, and say your vows,” said Father Cohen.

She looked behind them shocked at the clear barrier where the minister was, which was ridiculous. When Viktor told her they would have company soon, he wasn’t joking.

“Miss, if you are having reservation….”

Viktor growled.

The preacher voice instantly went silent.

My sister was hesitating now. I wasn’t sure if she was just nervous or doing it to purposely piss Viktor off. I was certain she intended to marry this man so I wasn’t concerned by this display of silence now. It looked like Viktor’s reaction warmed Mila’s heart. She looks at him like the sun sets on his ass. Mila sure never looked at any other man the way she looks at Viktor. I was hoping to help arrange a marriage to a softer, man with power for her but she went out and fell for Viktor. Everyone was better than Boris, and Mila looked happy.

The doors of the church burst open.

Several shooters ran inside but Viktor’s men quickly took them down. As planned the tables were flipped and used as a cover while gunning down the intruders. Several of the bullets continued to hit the bullet proof enclosure surrounding them.

I slid to the floor. Grabbing a dead body, I rolled underneath it and hid. Cian still hadn’t come back from the bathroom. If we were lucky, he would be in there protected.

Mila screamed. “Anya.” She darted around the closure as a man with an AK-47 fired. Viktor jumped in the air tackling her. They both fell to the floor.

Peeking out from the body, I saw that Boris now knew my location thanks to Mila, and I shoved the body aside and darted around the chairs, trying to put some distance between us. I tripped over a dead body.

I scurried to my feet, but Boris yanked me to him by my hair, and tossed me over his shoulder. Viktor aimed his gun, as he crouched behind a few chairs. At the angle, he was at if he fired at us, he would hit me too.

I mouthed. “Take the shot.”

My shoulders slumped when he shook his head. He knew that I was giving him permission to shoot me and he lowered his weapon.

I winced as I watched Viktor get shot. Mila’s screams continued to echo in my ears as I watched.
