Everything we do is to destroy each other. Why would sleeping together change that?

I drift off with a smile on my face and a fluttering in my heart that tells me all kinds of lies and lets me believe this could turn into something good.

Somewhere in the early hours, I wake with a jolt and realise I’m not alone. Grabbing the quilt, I pull it higher under my chin and shuffle up the bed.

A scream dies in my throat as my eyes focus in and see the reality of the situation. It’s not an intruder; it’ Casper. He’s sitting on the side of my bed, his hand on my leg over the quilt, smirking as if he’s now one up on me.

Jesus.

Who’s winning this game we’re playing? I can’t keep up long enough to take score. Not once have I ever felt one of us is winning. Though, I’ve never felt like he’s losing, either.

Sunlight bounces off his bare chest, and his eyes appear almost silver as he watches me like I’m a miracle. It won’t be long until his eyes are brightened by the sun.

He’s here. For me.

Calm down.I can’t start believing that he’s here for more than sex. Our worlds have collided in the only way that makes sense. The only way that we can be civil.

“Risky move. I keep a bat beside my bed after the break-in, and you could’ve had a dent in the side of your head right now,” I tell him, clearing my throat.

“You know, I did hesitate for a second. I didn’t want to frighten you.”

I laugh and grab his hand to pull him down onto the bed with me. “I thought the same when I let myself into yours.”

He drops onto the pillow beside mine with ease, already comfortable in my room, and I join him. This feels like the most natural thing in the world, having him beside me, hearing his soft breaths, and feeling the warmth from his body. But there is nothing natural about me and Casper, and I can’t forget that because he’s killer in bed. My heart could get crushed if I do. I have to guard it because I don’t know how to trust this man.

“I couldn’t wait until tonight,” he says, twisting his head towards me. He’s free and content, lazily watching me on my bed like this is our usual routine.

“It does seem a very long way off.”

“I’m all out of patience.”

“So I’ve seen.”

Laughing, he rolls on top of me, his elbows pinning me into position.

I’m not going anywhere. “Good morning, Ainsley.”

This is probably my favourite place to be in the world. His hair has flopped forwards. I fight the urge to curl my hands into it and be the one to kiss him first. After everything he’s put me through, I want him to do the chasing. His smile is easy. Happy.

“Morning, Casper. How did you sleep?”

“Terribly. I couldn’t stop thinking about this,” he says, running the pad of this thumb across my bottom lip. “How did you sleep?”

“Terribly. I couldn’t stop thinking about this.” I push my hand down his joggers. His breath catches, and his eyes flutter shut.

So much for giving my body a break.

Gripping his cock, I slowly pump his rock-hard erection until he moans my name and grabs my wrist.

“I need to be inside you when I come.”

“Wait, how did you get in?”

“I’m harder than I’ve ever been in my life, you’re laying beneath me wearing tiny shorts and bullets for nipples, and you think I’m discussing my entrance right now?”

“When you put it that way,” I mutter, lifting my butt.

Casper lays down, putting some weight onto me, then his lips are on my neck. “Be quiet if you don’t want to wake your friends,” he whispers, nipping my skin with his teeth, making it near impossible for me to be quiet.
