“Another man who likes other men.”

“That’s not the point.”

“I think it is.”

“You don’t get it. That’s okay,” he says, kissing my forehead.

“Casper, we never sort anything out. We argue and have sex.”

“Soon. See you later.”

He goes to open the door, but I grab his hand. “Wait. What if Freya or Imani and Marvin are up?”

“How do you expect me to leave?”

“My window is above the cloakroom, which is right next to your fence.”

His lips part. “Do you really expect me to sneak out of your window?”

I nod. “I do, actually.”

“Ainsley, be serious.”

“You be serious.”

“Nice comeback.”

“Please, Casper. Can you imagine how much crap they would give us if they knew we’re sleeping together?”

His eyes laser into mine. I’ve angered him and I still don’t hate it. I’m starting to crave any interaction, good or bad.

“You know what I mean. We agreed to keep this to ourselves. That means we need to make sure the walk of shame is done in secret.”

“Fucking hell.” He rakes his hand through his hair. “I would hate to humiliate you.”

“Don’t take it that way.” I follow him to the window, and he yanks my blind up so hard it almost falls off the wall. “Casper, please.”

He opens the window and looks over his shoulder, hurt and disappointment painted on his gorgeous face. “I’ll see you later. Don’t be nice to me or they’ll know.”

My shoulders sink.

Fuck.

He pushes the window shut and walks along the roof of the cloakroom.

Why are wesobad at this?

CHAPTERTWENTY-SEVEN

Reggie and I tick another thing off our list. Lighting is done, and it’s taken a lot of organising. Bloody circuses are full of lights. The photobooth is sorted and the two photographers are booked. It’s a perfect mix of childish fun and sophisticated entertainment.

It hasn’t been easy.

We had a slight issue with one of the law-themed cakes, but that’s been resolved. Reggie said under no circumstances can we have ‘sell-out’ written on the cookies.

“I feel like my eyes are bleeding,” I say, stifling a yawn.

We’ve been sitting in his living room for two hours, doing nothing but going over and over the event. I’m also operating on only an hour’s sleep thanks to the man who snuck out of my window this morning.
