“Oh, come on. You can’t deny it was fun. The nights I’d lay awake, knowing you were seething on the other side of the wall. Best foreplay ever.”

I’d come to that conclusion, too. “You’re kind of an arsehole.”

“I never said I was an angel. You might not want to expect that now.”

“Why? Are you going to continue being a dick to me?”

“I’ll try to do it less often. Can’t make any promises. Besides, I think we’re going toloveall the make up sex.”

I’m about to say something else, but then he silences me with a long kiss.

CHAPTERTWENTY-NINE

I want to protest when he pulls his mouth away from mine, but I also really do need to catch my breath. It’s completely unacceptable for him to stop kissing me, but when he arches a brow and smirks, I realise we’re still in my aunt and uncle’s living room. They wouldn’t appreciate us getting hot and heavy here. Plus, Aunt Jess is actuallyinthe house.

Must keep on top of my hormones.

“Can we go home now?” I ask, holding onto him tightly in case he disappears.

“I don’t think so.”

“She’ll understand.”

“This is the first time I’m meeting her, Ainsley. What impression of me would she have if I dragged you back home?”

“You do realise I have told hereverything.”

His eyes widen in alarm. “Why would you do that? Jesus, Ainsley.”

“Because that’s what we do… or almost, anyway. She doesn’t know about the arrest thing or the break-in. Don’t tell her.”

He blows out a sigh of relief. “Thank fuck. Shouldn’t you tell her about the break-in, though? That seems like something she should know.”

“And the niece she raised getting arrested isn’t?”

“Did I tell you I have a copy of your mug shot?”

My jaw drops. “Tell me you’re joking.”

“Too soon?”

“Casper…”

He places his hand over his heart. “I’m kidding.”

“You’re unbelievable.”

“Thank you,” he says, stroking his fingers over my cheek.

“That wasn’t a compliment.”

“You’re stunning, Ainsley.”

“Is that how you’re going to diffuse our arguments from now on?”

“Some of them. I’m still addicted to that scowl and the heat in your eyes when you’re mad at me.”

“That’s not healthy.”
