Maybe Ishouldhave a one-night stand.

I’m in uni. That seems to be the done thing. Particularly if your room backs onto mine…

Imani spends the next hour getting me ready, then we finish the Prosecco in the living room until we hear a beep outside. She slips something into my hand as I’m opening the front door.

“A condom. Really?”

She grins until I put it in my bag. “Atta girl.”

I’m wearing a tiny black dress with red heels, nails, and lips. My hair is neatly curled, and she’s lined my eyes with bat wings that I would have applied wonky if I’d tried to do it myself. I felt a like a movie star right up until the taxi pulled up.

Imani, noticing my panicked eyes, shakes her head. “No, it’s not too much. Get your hot arse into that car. We look incredible, and you’re leaving with at least one phone number tonight.”

“Is the dress too short?”

“No.”

“I don’t mind showing skin but not the skin covering my arse.”

Laughing, she pulls me along the hallway. “Without thinking about it, how do you feel?”

“Amazing.”

“Good. Hold onto that and have fun.”

I take the deepest breath and summon every ounce of courage I have.

Imani locks up, and we walk the path to the taxi.

My head is swimming with the half a bottle of Prosecco I drank a bit too quickly. It’ll be a cheaper night, I suppose.

Marvin wolf whistles when we approach to the taxi. He opens the door, but I’m the only one who climbs in. Of course, they need to swallow each other’s tongues for two minutes before we leave.

I slide in next to Reggie and smile. Opposite me with ice-cold eyes, Casper inspects my appearance.

“Damn, if I wasn’t gay,” Reggie says, raising his dark brows at my bare legs.

“You look good, too. And you smell amazing.” I resist leaning in to sniff him. That would be a bit weird, but damn, he smells good. “What aftershave are you wearing?”

“That’s Casper,” he replies, smirking.

And the night has already gone to hell.

Right. Well, I’m certainly not getting closer to that bastard. If he was to move forward one inch, our knees would touch, and I would probably melt like salt on a slug.

Marvin and Imani bundle in—her next to me, and him next to the resident devil.

I look at Reggie as the taxi driver speeds towards the bar like he’s on a suicide mission. We’re thrown to the side, and my eyes widen, bracing for an impact that never comes.

What the hell was he swerving in the road?

“We’re going to die,” I whisper.

The driver brakes late, and I’m jolted forwards. My knees slam against Casper’s. I put my hands out and use his chest to stop myself flying forwards. Damn, that’s hard. He catches me, a gasp dying in his throat. Strong hands grip my upper arms, setting me back upright and letting go like I burned him.

Christ, I was almost in his lap.

With my heart in my mouth, I lower my eyes and try to stop myself hyperventilating. The damn driver needs to slow the hell down.
