I can’t help being surprised at the fact that he’s noticed the guy looking at Reggie but not the women looking at him. There are a few. One even bites her lip as her friend points him out.

Subtle, love.

“I hope you remember his name,” I say to Reggie, who just gives me a wink before he walks off. No promises because the little slut probably won’t remember his name at all.

His confidence would also see me wielding a knife.

“We’re not going to see him again for the rest of the night, are we?” I ask Casper, ignoring the feeling of being watched.

Casper shakes his head as strobe lights bounces off his features, lighting him up, as if he needed any more attention. “He’ll be balls deep in ten minutes.”

“How eloquent.”

He shrugs and takes a very long swig of his drink.

“You went to one of the top private high schools in the country. What would your old principal say?”

“I don’t give a fuck, Ainsley.”

“Why are you angry?”

He drinks the rest of his whiskey in one go. “I’m not angry.”

“Play nice,” Marvin says when he comes up for air.

“I’m always nice,” I tell him. “He’s a miserable twat.”

“Did you just call me a twat?” Casper asks.

“I think I did.”

“Fucking hell,” Imani moans, popping the cork of the Prosecco. “I need to get drunk if we’re spending the night with you two.”

“Sorry,” I say. “I’m sorry.”

“Why are you sorry? They don’t have to sit here,” Casper asks.

I pinch the bridge of my nose. “Casper, for once would you just not be such a…”

“Twat?” he offers.

I take the glass from Imani and swig my drink to hide my smile. Screw it, I’m getting wasted.

“Dance with me,” Imani says, tugging me to my feet before I can reply. I awkwardly take one last sip of my drink before slamming it on the table, making it fizz over the rim of the glass.

I’m so ready to dance.

CHAPTERFIVE

An hour later, life isgreat.

Music reverberates off the walls and into my soul. I love it. A film of sweat coats the back of my neck while I choke in a breath of hot, thick air. I love that, too, even if it is a bit gross.

The dance floor is dense with gyrating bodies. I’m just on the outside of them, talking to a guy from uni. I’ve seen him around a few times and noticed the sunshine blond hair and sparkly blue eyes that always smile, but I’ve never spoken to him before.

So far, I’ve learned that his name is Joshua, but he prefers Josh, and he’sverycomplimentary.

He’s totally my type, so I’m taking Imani’s advice and getting to know him. Maybe we’ll get to know each other without our clothes on later, too.
