I feel ya, sister.

She shows us to a table, and everything is a bit of a daze. I briefly take in the traditional Mexican décor and the giant pitchers of cocktails on surrounding tables, my earlier glance taking nothing in. I may need one of those giant cocktails… all to myself.

I pick up the menu and scan each page, taking nothing in again, wondering when he’s going to talk to me now we’re here.

Or if he will.

“What are you having?” he asks quietly after the longest few minutes of my life.

I now have the kind version of him. This is how I’ve seen him talk to Imani and Freya.

It’s unnerving.

I chew on my lip and look around again, willing something to stick. I don’t mind being alone when we’re in private, but this feels very different. Somehow, it’s more intimate.

To anyone else, we could be on a date.

A bad one since he’s not even looking at me.

“You’re pale. Are you all right?” he asks.

“Fine,” I say. “I’m going for a beef burrito again. It’s amazing from here. Have you had one before?”

“Yes, you seem fine…”

I clear my throat. “Is this weird to you, too?”

His lip twitches like he’s going to smile, but he stops himself. “Yes. But everything this weekend has been weird, so shall we go with it?”

He’s not wrong there.

I’m not sure how capable I am of going with it since my mind is racing and I feel a bit nauseous again.

“Hello, can I get you some drinks?” the server asks. She gets points for asking me first.

Oh, God bless you.I’ve never been so tempted to order three pitchers of tequila sunrise before.

Casper orders a Coke before I can talk, getting his order in first, and I’m sure he did it on purpose, given his smirk.

“I’ll have the same,” I say.

Dark brows rise. “You don’t want a cocktail?”

“Um. Coke is fine.”

I need to get it together or it’s going to be obvious that I’m nervous.

Bigbutterflies happening over here.

The server might think he’s kidnapped me and call the police, which I admit could be very funny.

“Ainsley, get what you want.”

“Tequila sunrise please,” I say to the server, who scribbles it down on a pad.

“Coming up,” she says, walking away.

Casper smirks again as he goes back to reading his menu.
