“You would pay to have sex with me?”

“I would slaughter my whole family to have sex with you.”

Laughing, I playfully slap his arm. “Okay, this is getting weird. Are we cool now? I really don’t want to keep fighting.”

“Are you alone today?”

We’ll skip my question, then. “Imani’s away with Marvin for a few days again. Something about rescuing their Easter break, since you ruined it for everyone. Freya’s going on a date after classes. Reggie’s coming over tonight, though, so I won’t be alone.”

Casper’s poker face slips as his eyes tighten. “Is he staying at yours?”

“No, we’re going over the guest list I’m picking up from your mum, making sure we have every address written correctly for the printers. We’re having dinner… which you’re welcome to join us for.”

He stands frozen for the longest time.

“Casper?” I say, looking at my phone as it dings.

“I’ll be there. I need to shower and get ready for a meeting.”

“Yeah, go for it. I’ll see you later,” I say, reading the message from his mum.

Casper leaves, looking back over his shoulder twice before he heads into his house.

That look I recognise, too. It’s the horny eyes, like when he told me he wanted to bend me over the table.

I get the hell back into my house right away and start getting ready.

My mum’s had to go to work. I’ll take you to my parents’ later.

She called and left a key because I need to go now.

I’ll take you later.

It’s fine.

It’s not fucking fine.

You’re not going there alone.

Ainsley, for fuck’s sake, I’m taking you.

And that’s when I put my phone away. Prick.

I don’t know what’s going on, but I want to get there in plenty of time so I can go through this with Reggie tonight.

There’s no meeting, so no point in taking Casper along. A fact he can’t seem to accept.

Whatever, it’s his problem, not mine.

CHAPTERSEVENTEEN

I walk outside, ready to head to the bus stop when Casper’s front door flies open so hard, it makes a bang and slams shut again.

His face is like thunder, meaning he’s not managed to calm down yet. I’m ready to whack him over the head.

“You didn’t reply,” he barks.

“To the tantrum texts? No, I didn’t.”
