“No, you wouldn’t have in a room filled with people, but one on one, it’s a different story.”

I flashed on us together in the elevator.

“The man has no shame. He’s not a good guy. He sleeps with women to get their secrets. Then he manipulates them to force himself into deals and positions that will benefit him, and when he’s done with the women, he discards them like they’re trash. Ask anyone—the name Colter Price is synonymous with man-whore, but he doesn’t just do it to get off, he gains ground by doing it.”

I thought about the way Colter had pushed me up against the wall, and how I’d wanted him to kiss me.

I was appalled. Was that what this was? Was it why he asked me to be on the project?

I wouldn’t let him come close to me, and not because of what Jerry said, either. I wasn’t the kind of girl who just fawned over a man, falling at his feet in worship. Even if Colter was the kind of guy who looked like he expected it. I was bigger than that, stronger than that. I’d been through a tough life, and if a guy thought he could seduce me with a few good lines and a handsome face—a god-like face—then he had another thing coming.

“I won’t let anything affect my judgment, if that’s what you’re worried about,” I finally said.

“You say that now, but—”

“I think we both know that I’m not one who can be bought with flattery,” I said tightly. “Or any form of intimidation. Even when men assume I’ll be more open to their advances, they’re wrong.”

Jerry pursed his lips. He knew I was talking about him and what he’d done so far. We didn’t have to put anything to words.

“Just remember where your loyalty lies, Liv,” he finally said. “And remember that no matter how rich and charming Price can be, he’s still just an animal.”

I shivered at the words. I didn’t know why Colter had such an effect on me that even Jerry’s words about him made me feel…something. I couldn’t put my finger on what was going on.

“I have a few things I need to get done, if that’s all,” I said.

Jerry nodded. “Yeah, get out of here. I’ll call on you when I need you.”

“You always do,” I said and turned around to the door before I could see Jerry narrow his eyes at me.

When I left the office, I was still reeling. This project could be the next big thing in my career. It could change everything for me. I just had to keep my head about me, and make sure that no one—not even Colter Price—distracted me so that it threw me off track.

COLTER

“So, where are we with development?” I asked Jerry when we sat in a meeting two weeks later. Liv sat with us around the boardroom table, her tablet ready to take notes, and she had several research documents with her.

By the looks of things, she was better at her job than Jerry was at his, but that wasn’t hard to do.

I glanced at Liv without trying to look like I was staring. She wore a dark blue blouse and black leggings, and it showed off her curves.

Fuck, she was one of the hottest women I’d ever seen. I hadn’t ever been drawn to someone like I was drawn to her.

If Jerry wasn’t here, I would do what I could to seduce her.

I flashed on images of where I ripped those leggings off her and fucked her on the table.

She looked up at me, her brown eyes wide, and a jolt of pure need rushed through me when our eyes locked. The look on her face, her lips parted, almost looked like she could know what I was thinking.

Would she be down for that, for a good fuck on a boardroom table?

My cock twitched in my pants, and I shifted in my seat.

What was wrong with me? I couldn’t get all worked up now. Besides, being drawn to Liv was a problem. I couldn’t let a woman get my mind so scrambled that I didn’t keep my eyes on the prize.

The medicine. That was the prize, not being able to fuck Liv.

Focus.
