“What about me?”

“You’re serious about Bishop, aren’t you?”

I hesitated before I nodded. “More serious than I’ve been about anyone.”

“What does that mean?” Colter asked me.

“You know I will always revere and respect you, and I’ll always be loyal to you.”

“But?”

“I want to join his pack. I want to be with him, be his mate. I want to stay here.”

Mykel and Colter both blinked at me. They weren’t happy; I could tell. It wasn’t up to them, though.

“You’d be leaving New York and everything and everyone you’ve ever known. Are you sure he’s really worth it?” Colter finally asked. “He has a bad reputation.”

I thought about Bishop and how rough he could be around the edges, how hard he could come across. He was like that because of the pain he’d suffered, and underneath it all was a male worth loving. I loved him so much, it almost hurt.

“I’m sure,” I said. “He’s everything.”

Colter and Mykel glanced at each other.

“It’s about what you want at the end of the day,” Colter finally said. “I don’t have to actually release you. You’re free to make your own choices. I just want you to be sure.”

“I’m sure,” I said with a small smile. “I’ve never been more sure of anything.”

Mykel studied me. “You really do love him, huh?”

I was willing to admit it out loud. “Yeah. I really do.”

Mykel grinned, happy with my answer. Colter wasn’t happy that I would be leaving, but that was okay. I could still see them, talk to them, reach out to them when I was needed, but I belonged here.

When we arrived at the mansion, there was a flurry of activity getting everyone settled. Bishop hired extra staff to take care of his guests and got chefs in to make enough food for a horde.

Finally, we got some time alone. He shut the door to his bedroom, and we had privacy.

“Thank you for saving me,” I said.

“I owed you one,” Bishop said and came to me, taking me in his arms. “I was terrified I’d already lost you.”

I kissed him. “Never. I love you, Bishop.”

He looked at me, and his face crumpled. “I love you, too.”

The weight of our confessions of love lingered between us. Waves of warmth cascaded through my being. The tenderness in his eyes mirrored the vulnerability I felt, solidifying our unbreakable bond.

He kissed me again, and for a moment, we got lost in each other. My body reacted to his closeness, and I felt my primal need for him rush to the surface, but this wasn’t the time.

“We’re going to face this hell together, and then it will be behind us,” I said.

“I can’t lose you, Rory. Without you, I’m just one half of a whole. I’ve always been content alone, happy to do it all by myself, but now that I have you, I don’t want to do this without you. You’re my mate. We’re meant to be together, and if something happens and I lose you…”

“You won’t. We found the traitors, and we have an army bigger than anything you’ve had before. We’re not only going to fight them, but we’re also going to win and eliminate the threat completely.”

“I’m so lucky to have you,” Bishop said.

He kissed me again and pulled me into an embrace. I held onto him, drinking in his warmth, feeling the magic that pulsed through our bond. We were together, him and I, cut from the same cloth and bound together as mates.
