“What might that be?” Bishop asked, in human form now, too. He was hostile, and Mykel glared at him.

“Will you cut it out?” I snapped. “There are much bigger things to worry about than you attacking them like a bunch of hooligans!”

“We’re protecting our own,” Mykel growled at me.

“That’s just the thing,” I said. “You’re not. They’re not the enemy.” I nodded toward Bishop. “This whole thing was a ploy to set us up against each other. I was brought out here as a trick, and this mess is someone else’s idea of fun, getting in there while you’re too distracted fighting each other.”

“She’s right,” Sabrione said, stepping up. “I had a vision of two kings falling on a chessboard, the board wiped clean of white pieces until only the black pieces remained.”

“What is that supposed to mean?” Colter asked with a scowl. “Who are you?”

Sabrione only looked at Colter with a strange expression. A moment later, his eyes changed, and then he stumbled backward, catching himself before he fell.

“I… see,” he murmured. “You’re a fae.”

Sabrione nodded.

“We shouldn’t be fighting each other,” Colter said. He had high respect for the fae—they’d helped him through a lot of tough times with his own mate, Liv, and he knew that they meant well. Whatever Sabrione had shown him, it had changed his mind, getting him on the same page as the rest of us. “We should band together and stand against this force of darkness.”

He turned to Bishop and held out his hand. “With this, a truce.”

I watched as the two alphas shook. When an alliance was formed that way, the shifters stood down. They still had their alphas to follow, but we were together in this now, on the same side rather than facing off against each other.

“I have space for a few of you at my place,” Bishop said. “With the rest, I need my shifters to open your homes for the others, and we’ll take the time to prepare.” He looked at Colter. “It would be an honor to host you and your inner circle as my guests.”

Colter accepted.

It took a while for the different shifters to offer the others places to stay. A few of them opted to stay at the bar and have a couple of drinks together.

I was so grateful for Sabrione at that moment. Without her, the fight would have become lethal, but luckily, nobody had received any major injuries that wouldn’t heal. Bishop had saved me just in time before the situation became catastrophic.

Now we had to deal with the demon spawn.

Bishop organized cars, and a handful of shifters were driven back to his mansion. It included Colter and Mykel.

I rode with them, rather than with Bishop. I had to talk to them.

“What happened?” Colter demanded. “Nina had a reason to be as panicked as she was when she called me.”

“She got it all wrong,” I said and explained what had happened, beginning at the start. I told them about the fight with Turk, where Bishop had been fatally injured and the dark magic had nearly killed him. I told them about our fight, and then about how Turk had taken me. Mykel looked murderous, and Colter’s face darkened as well.

“It’s not over,” I said. “Turk wants me to be his mate to help him control his demon side and let him live on Earth without a problem, no matter how that goes down. Never mind my position in the pack, which will help him, too. He’s a serious threat with his dark side, the demon taking over when it needs to. His dad has a demon on his side, too, so this won’t be a joke.”

Colter and Mykel glanced at each other. “We’ll ask the fae on our side for help.”

Mykel nodded. “And we might have to ask Liv to help.”

“No,” Colter said firmly.

“With this many demons, we might have to consider she could be the only one who can hold them back long enough,” Mykel argued.

I knew Colter was against the idea of involving his mate. Liv was half-angel, the most angel blood that lived on Earth at the moment, and she was powerful beyond measure now that she’d taken the time to unlock her true self. Colter was still crazy protective over her, and no wonder—she was his mate. Nothing was more feral than a mated alpha.

“Maybe you should let her decide,” Mykel suggested.

Colter didn’t look happy about it, but he agreed to at least fill Liv in. I knew for a fact that the half-angel, half-fae mate would be furious if Colter left her out of the loop on this, anyway. Especially since we were all planning on going to war.

“What about you?” Mykel asked me.
