“I appreciate it, man,” I said.

“I appreciate you asking. If you ever do anything to hurt her—”

“I know, I know,” I cut him off with a grin. “You have nothing to worry about.”

Colter smiled at me, his face lighting up, and he stood.

“I’m told you need rest. You look like shit.”

“Thanks for that,” I laughed, but the laugh turned into a groan, and I winced in pain. Ididneed rest.

“I’ll see you soon, I’m sure,” Colter said, and he left the room.

I closed my eyes, lying back against the pillows, and for the first time in what felt like forever, I was able to let go and just breathe. No one was going to take what was mine or try to steal my territory. I had people in my corner I could trust and a woman I loved, who loved me in return.

Things were finally looking the way I’d wanted, and it was all thanks to Rory.

Fuck, what a female to have by my side.

RORY

Bishop recovered faster than I’d thought he would, and in no time at all, he was back on his feet and running his businesses and the pack as if nothing had happened.

Everything about him had changed, though. He wasn’t nearly as cold and distant as he used to be, and his pack seemed to almost respect him more for it now. Before, they’d been scared of him. Now, they respected and trusted him, and the balance was as it should be.

When Bishop arrived at the mansion, I was in his kitchen, making something for us to eat. I had steaks on the grill and vegetables roasting in the oven.

“It smells amazing in here,” Bishop said when he walked into the kitchen.

He wrapped his arms around my waist and planted a kiss on my lips.

“I could get used to coming home to this.”

I giggled. “I don’t cook all the time.”

“I meant you,” he said and kissed me again before nuzzling my neck. I laughed and tilted my head back, giving him space to kiss me, driving me crazy.

I wanted him to carry me to his bedroom right now, but the food would burn. I wanted to eat it first.

“How was your day?” Bishop asked, pulling away from me and settling at the breakfast island.

“Good,” I said. “They’re happy to have me back at the clinic, and it feels like we’re getting fewer patients with problems we can’t put our finger on. Whatever Dario was playing out, it had wider repercussions than any of us realized.”

“I can’t believe the son of a bitch betrayed me,” Bishop growled darkly. “If Colter hadn’t killed him, I would have.”

“He deserved it,” I said. “Turk, too. He was a nasty piece of work.”

“Not every species is supposed to mix. Some of them are abominations.”

“I think there are still a bunch out there we don’t know about,” I said. Dario had taken all his centuries as a shifter and put them to good use, sleeping with demons left and right to build a twisted army. We’d killed or driven away those that had come to battle, but that didn’t mean they were all gone.

“If they cause shit, we’ll take them out,” Bishop said.

I nodded. The pack had more power now that the darkness had been erased, and with Bishop and Colter working together, it changed everything. I loved that Colter and Mykel—my family—got along with Bishop, my forever. Everything had worked out perfectly, and I’d never been happier.

When the food was ready, Bishop and I dished our plates and walked to the dining room, where I’d set the table and lit candles.
