Bishop lifted his hand and stroked my hair, tracing my face with his fingertips like he was committing it to memory.

“I love you,” he said.

“I love you, too.”

He grinned at me, a smile of pure happiness, and it mirrored my own.

EPILOGUE

Bishop

“Come with me,”I said to Rory when she got out of the shower and dried her hair. It had been three months since she’d moved in with me, and having her in my life, my home, my bed, was perfect.

I couldn’t remember what life used to be like without her.

“Where are we going?” she asked.

“I have a surprise for you.”

Rory’s eyes sparkled, and she followed me out of the house and to the car. The driver already waited for us.

While we drove, I took Rory’s hand and interlinked our fingers. I planted a kiss on her knuckles.

The past months with her had been absolute bliss. I’d never thought I could be this happy—I’d never allowed myself to be. Sometimes, I still feared that something would come along and rip it all away, but every day, Rory fought as hard for us being together as I did.

Nothing was as it had been before, and we were going to be just fine.

When the car pulled into the clinic parking lot, Rory frowned.

“What are we doing here?”

“I told you, it’s a surprise.”

I got out and held out my hand to help her out. When I shut the car door, the driver pulled away to park somewhere and wait for us.

“I got you this.”

“What?” Rory asked and looked around.

“The clinic.”

Rory stared at me. “I don’t understand.”

“I bought you the clinic,” I said.

“What?” Her mouth hung open.

My heart raced with anticipation. I had spent countless hours making this happen, purchasing something that I knew would be the perfect gift.

Seeing the awe and wonder in her eyes, a mix of surprise and delight, I felt a surge of joy flood through me.

The size of the gift was intentional, a reflection of the immense space Rory occupied in my heart. Every detail, carefully attended to, represented her unique passions. She would have all the resources she would ever need to pursue her dreams. I had poured my soul into selecting the perfect present, hoping to convey the depth of my affection. Witnessing her reaction, the genuine appreciation that danced across her face filled me with an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.

“Yeah.” I grinned at her. “You told me I don’t care enough about my people to give them the healthcare they need, and you were right, so I fixed that. I’m giving them the best healthcare they can get, giving you the clinic to pull together and make perfect.”

“Oh, Bishop!” She wrapped her arms around me. “I can’t believe this. It’s not even my birthday.” She giggled.

The staff poured out of the building, all of them smiling at us. Rory laughed, looking at them all. It was beautiful to see her this happy—that had been the plan, but I hadn’t thought I would ever be able to make herthishappy.
