“She was ballsy for trying,” I agreed.

“Yeah, fucking ballsy. I’m not turning Sapphire into a Tupperware party.”

I giggled. “You could open yourself up to a whole new clientele. Appeal to the moms out there who need a bit of excitement when they have a night off.”

Jameson snorted. “We should open a daycare so they don’t have to arrange a babysitter.”

I laughed. Jameson rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m going to have to ask Serena to screen the meetings better so I don’t lose valuable time over bullshit.”

“Of course, you can do much better with your time.”

“I could.” Jameson’s eyes turned to a dark blue, almost the color the club was named after. I’d noticed the past couple of weeks working with him that his eyes changed according to his mood, moving between the eyes of his bear and the eyes of the man depending on where his head was at.

Right now, despite the oceanic cold color of his eyes, they were smoldering with heat. It ignited something inside me, and I shifted in my seat, scissoring my thighs.

“I should get back to my desk,” I said in a breathy voice. The sexual tension between us grew thicker. We’d gotten more and more relaxed around each other lately. Jameson had started flirting with me, and cautiously, I flirted back.

It doesn’t mean anything. It’s just my boss, the owner of a sex club. Flirting is a currency around here.

I liked it when he flirted with me, even when I knew that nothing would come from it.

Someone knocked on the door and opened it before Jameson could call.

A tall woman walked in, moving with fluid grace. Dark brown hair hung over her shoulders in curls, and she had the same cornflower blue eyes as Jameson did. Her face was heart-shaped where his was square, but the way her mouth curled in a smile looked exactly like him.

I recognized her from the photos that hung behind Jameson.

“Am I interrupting something?” she asked.

“Carly, come in,” Jameson said. “You never interrupt. We were just wrapping up.”

“Good, I wasn’t going to leave, anyway.” She laughed and walked into the office. A strange kind of magic followed her. It tugged and pushed at me, like a child who tugged at my clothes for attention, but it slipped away again for a moment, almost as if distracted.

“Oaklee, this is my sister Carletta. Oaklee is my new recruit.”

“Ah, the new office girl,” Carletta said warmly. “I’ve heard all about you.”

“You have?”

Carletta glanced at Jameson, amused. “I like to make it my business what goes on in Jameson’s life, because I’m nosey like that.” She smiled brightly at me, and it set me at ease.

Her power tugged at me again as if it suddenly remembered I was there. I felt her magic, felt her bear, but something about her power felt very wrong.

Nadia’s words came back to me.

She can shift; she just won’t. It’s causing her to go crazy.

Carletta didn’t look crazy to me. Her magic was just… all over the place.

“How are you enjoying the club?” Carletta asked, a glint in her eye.

“It’s not what I expected,” I said. “But I’m getting used to it. A new job is always daunting at first, right?”

“She’s doing pretty good, fitting in,” Jameson said.

I laughed. “Yeah, fitting into the meetings you keep pulling me into is tough to get my head around.”

Jameson chuckled. “That’s not what I mean, but you’re pretty damn good at your job, so we won’t change a winning plan. We’ll just keep—” Jameson’s phone rang, cutting him off.
