“Sure, but she’s our busybody. Which is why I did a thing.” Cassie bounces in her seat, rubbing her hands together as if she’s just devised the best evil plan.

“You’ve got my attention.” I lean forward, resting my forearms on my desk.

“Theo put me in contact with a woman here in the city who builds family trees. You know how Ruth is always talking about having one created. I hired her to build one.” Cassie shares.

“That’s an amazing idea. How much involvement will Ruth have?” I ask.

“As much as she wants. She will meet with Ruth and then they will talk about how involved she wants to be. But I was thinking it would be a way to get her to find something outside of work to do.” Cassie is brilliant.

“This is perfect. What a great idea, Cass,” I tell her.

“I’ll email you her website, but I was thinking it would make a great birthday present.” Cassie pulls out her phone.

“It is. It’s totally going to trump Cole’s and my gift.” I pout.

“No way. A joint photo shoot for her and Dorthy with their favorite photographer, like, the opportunity of a lifetime.” Cassie assures me.

“The two of them are just such a handful sometimes, now this. They are going to think they are divas.”

“They are.” Cassie and I both laugh.

“Wanna head down to Sweet Wave for a mid-morning pick-me-up?” Cassie asks as she stands.

“Are you allowed to indulge in sweets right now?” I tease her as I lock my screen and stand as well.

“Uh, yeah. I tell myself the same thing I tell my brides. Two months before the wedding is not the time to starve yourself. No use being miserable before the biggest day in your life. You just have to have self-control.”

I laugh because she’s not wrong. “I’m down for a cupcake or something. I’ve got some meetings this afternoon plus a work call during lunch.”

We make it downstairs a few minutes later and find a long line for coffee. My phone vibrates in my pocket as I come to a stop at the end of the line. I read the text from Cole.

Cole

I think I’m gonna take my favorite gal out tonight.

Me

oh yeah?

Yeah. I’m thinking a nice long walk, then a quick stop for a treat at the bakery she loves, then finish the night at the park with a solid game of fetch.

I let out a snort and grin down at my phone.

I knew this day would come.

It was inevitable.

“You better not be sexting while standing next to me in line for caffeine. Total ick factor.” Cassie groans.

“Like Theo never sends you dirty texts on girls’ night out.” I cock my brow.

She shakes her head. “Touché.”

I send him a quick kissy face and then pocket my phone as I notice Cassie frowning down at hers. Then she lets out a frustrated sigh.

“What’s wrong?” I ask as we move up in line.

“Oh, I just had a photographer back out of a wedding I’ve got coming up in three weeks.” She crosses her arms.
