“I thought I would wait for the perfect moment to ask you, but… once again, I’m going to have to go off script, Mia. I don’t think any manufactured romantic occasion could top what just happened. So I thought I would add to the memory for the both of us and ask you a very special question right here, my love,” he sim-coms.

My eyes go blurry as I watch with bated breath while his long, tapered fingers push the box open, but I can still clearly see the magnificence of the stone dazzling from its dark velvet nest.

Suddenly all the questions Penny has been throwing my way in the past month make sense.

If I had chosen an engagement ring for myself, it would have been this one. Only maybe I wouldn’t have picked something so big. This puppy must have cost him a fortune. He is insane.

I look at him, crying, smiling, and shaking my head all at once. “Babe, you are crazy…”

He looks down at the multi-faceted pink diamond in a round brilliant cut mounted as a solitaire over a platinum band.

He laughs. “Yes, I am… I’m totally crazy about you…”

I giggle. “That’s so cheesy! I love it! I love you! Thank you!”

“I love you too, Little Beauty… but all this stuff should have comeafter… you’re messing up my program!”

I sniffle, looking on as he plucks the ring from the box and holds it out to me. He throws the box over the bed and reaches for my left trembling hand.

He slips the ring over my finger and pushes it in place, and my vision turns completely fuzzy as tears stream down my face.

“Carson…”

He drops my hand and cups my face, both of his thumbs stroking over my jaw and sliding upward to dry my tears. Then his lips come down onto mine for a kiss that takes what little breath I had left away and leaves me sagging against his naked chest, his arms the only thing keeping me standing.

I circle his back with my arms, hugging him and just enjoying the closeness as I breathe into his woodsy, citrusy scent.

Then I start laughing. He did it again. I can’t believe it!

He pulls away from me, looking down at me, puzzled. “What you laughing about there, baby?”

I roll my eyes and playfully punch his shoulder. “You did it again! You didn’t ask! That’s not how you propose to your girlfriend, whether you’re modern or old-fashioned!”

Carson chuckles. “Oh, come on! Like you would have said no!”

I mock-gasp in outrage. “You aresosleeping on the sofa for the rest of your natural life, Mister Rock Star!”

He shrugs. “I can sleep on the sofa. As long as I don’t sleep without you, I’m cool on any surface, really… and we both know you would miss me too much to sleep alone in our big empty bed.”

I groan. “You’re impossible!”

“That’s why you love me, babe!”

Well, yeah, of course, that’s definitely on the list of reasons why I love him, but I’msonot going to admit to it right now. “Dream on…”

“I’m already dreaming, love. I haven’t woken up once since I met you… I hope I never do.”

See what I mean? No way a sane woman would stay even a little bit miffed at him for more than five minutes.

Carson deliberately points at me, then makes a little circle in the air with one hand in front of his chest before bringing it decidedly down to clasp his other palm.

My heart starts pounding in my chest.

He then carefully aims a finger at himself, eyebrows raised in question.

Did he just sign…

‘Marry Me?’
