When I was done running, I went home and stormed into the kitchen to grab some water, pausing when I looked at the clean counters. I hoped it was Meech who cleaned and not Charlotte. It would make me feel even worse that after she cooked and cleaned, I let her leave without so much as a goodbye like the bastard I was.

Fuck. I could still smell her. Even as I went upstairs. Her scent was also engraved in my mind, and it was the only thing that could challenge my torturous restlessness.

I shut the door behind me. Whipping off my shorts, I stepped into the shower and turned it on. Without thinking, I grasped my cock in my hand.

And then let the mental images of her rule me.

I thought about her tight, wet heat against my hands. I remember how she’d looked that night with her hair all around her, all wanton with grasping hands and gasping lips. Shit, she’d burned for me the hottest, brightest star.

My hands moved faster on my cock, trying to pump it out. It was the only way I could get any release, so I no longer had to think. The pleasure was sharp as it arced up my back, tightening my balls. Fuck, I wasn’t going to last.

Oh, the way she’d kissed me and held me. It ran through my brain like the fucking dirtiest movie I could imagine. I didn’t even have to think of one before ecstasy dragged me down its long dirty hallway.

My hand slapped against the wall to hold myself up as I came. The tension inside me released in a sharp climax that was not much, nothing compared to what I had with her.

But for now, it was enough.

CHARLOTTE

“Kelly?”

I couldn’t see the face of whoever was standing in front of me, but I instinctively knew it was my sister. Everything from the way she stood to her slim shoulders to the long blonde hair tumbling down her back told me it was Kelly, wearing a long white dress.

She didn’t turn to face me when I screamed her name.

And she didn’t respond to my call at all. Instead, she started walking away from me.

“Kelly!” My voice sounded more desperate, louder this time. I was feeling more of a sense of urgency as I watched her retreat, continuing down the long dark pathway. I needed to get to her. I needed to reach her before something horrible happened.

The problem was that my body was slow to move. Just picking myself off the ground took a lot of effort because my body felt leaden. It was like hands were pulling me back and holding me down, hands that were too strong. Hands that I couldn’t escape from no matter how hard I fought. And Ididfight—harder than I had ever fought for anything in my life.

Thunder cracked through the atmosphere, and with one final tug, I managed to break away from them. With my heart thumping in fear, I ran down the long pathway after my sister. But I was too slow. I had to go faster to stop what was coming, but my feet weren’t keeping up the way I needed them to.

I froze when I saw her standing at the edge of a cliff. Waves crashed under her, slamming into the banks below. She teetered dangerously, her hands held out as if welcoming her destruction.

“Kelly,” I screamed as I reached for her. “Please stop!”

She turned to stare at me with vacant eyes.

“Please,” I begged, seeing the pain in her haggard expression and feeling the same pain tearing my chest apart. “Don’t. Mom and Dad…you can’t do this to them…”

“I’m not the one doing it, though,” she said as she took a step toward me. Suddenly, the wind dragged me closer to her until I could almost reach out and touch her. “It’s you who’s hurting them.”

“Wh…what?” I stammered.

She reached out and grabbed my hand with her cold one, bringing it up, then wrapping my fingers around her neck. “You’re the one doing this to Mom and Dad as you’re the one betraying them.”

I shook my head weakly. “No.”

“You’re the one killing me,” she continued.

“No!” I exclaimed, and I watched in horror as my hands drifted to her chest. And then I pushed her off.

The scream exploded from my throat as I jerked up in bed. I was covered in a cold sweat and shivering even though it was probably warm outside. The sun streamed in through the windows, but it didn’t register with my body. My heart was jumping around in my chest, and I was still stuck in the nightmare.

“Bad dream, Charlie?” I jerked at the voice, which was coming from Casey. He leaned against the doorway to my room, wearing his trademark hoodie and chewing on a piece of toast.
