I’m such a coward for not telling him what I was really thinking. Why is it so hard to tell him about his father? But what good would it do if I told him? He has a great relationship with his father. Believed his parents loved each other. Why would I want to ruin that for him? Hopefully, not telling him won’t one day bite me in the ass.

“What?” Finn jerks back.

“I’m not coming back to work.”

Finn pushes away from me and sits up on the bed. I get up too and gather the sheet to wrap around my body.

“You can’t quit,” he says.

“I’ve already told Tamara. She wasn’t happy about it, but she understands.”

Finn runs his fingers through his already tousled hair. “Makemeunderstand.”

“Everyone in the office knows we’re in a relationship. I saw the way they looked and whispered about me. At first, I thought I didn’t care too much, but after what happened at the Gala, I don’t want to have any speculation thrown my way again.”

“The Gala was a one-time incident, and I don’t care what other people think. If I move back to London, you’re coming with me. You can work from the London office.”

I shake my head. “It’s the same thing. If I come with you to work in Alessi London, everyone will know you got me the job. I want to keep our personal and working relationship separate. Look what happened today. I don’t want to feel that way again.”

“That won’t happen again.”

“I know it won’t, because I won’t work for you. I have to do this.”

Finn blows out a long, frustrated breath. “What will you do for work?”

“Alyssa is going to talk to her manager about getting me a job at The Temple.”

Finn’s eyebrows slam together. “The Temple? You’re not working as a stripper!”

Crossing my arms over my chest, I frown. “Alyssa is not a stripper—not that there’s anything wrong with that if she were. If that’s what I want to do, you can’t stop me.”

Finn crosses his arms over his chest, mirroring me. “I fucking can, and I will.”

“You don’t own me.”

“I own you as much as you own me,” his voice grows deep. “If I say you’re not stripping, you’re not stripping.

God, controlling men drive me nuts! “She’s going to ask about me getting a bar position.”

His shoulders sag with relief. He pinches the bridge of his nose. “You could have led with that.”

“You didn’t let me explain. You jumped in, acting like a caveman. What were you going to do? Club me on the head and toss me over your shoulder to stop me?”

He rubs his chin and grins. “If I have to.”

I roll my eyes. “For future reference, I willnotbe told what to do. I’m not living like that again. Understood?”

The smile on Finn’s face drops. “Understood. Although, if you get the bar job, I’ll be there at every shift.”

My jaw falls open. “Why would you do that?”

“Because The Temple has a bad reputation?”

“How do you know?” I cock an eyebrow.

“I’veheardit has a bad reputation.I’venever been there.”

Fiddling with the edge of the sheet, I say, “I don’t even know if I’ll get the job. So, calm down.”
