I spring into a sitting position and fling my legs off the bed, ready to go wherever I’m needed. The fog of sleepiness evaporating. “What’s wrong?”

I search the closet for jeans and a t-shirt. I don’t have the beautiful clothes from Alessi’s anymore. I gave them back after I quit. Finn insisted I keep them, but it didn’t feel right.

“You’re not at work,” his deep voice grumbles.

I pause with my clothes in my hands. “I don’t work there anymore. I haven’t in days.”

“What can I do to change your mind? Sexual favors didn’t do the trick.”

I giggle and sit on the bed. “You can keep trying with sexual favors if you like. Maybe I need a little more convincing. I really liked the way you did that thing with your tongue—”

“Get your ass in the office now!” he growls. “I’ll be happy to do it again and again and again.”

I clench my thighs together. Just the sound of his voice makes me hot. “I’m not coming into the office to have sex with you.”

“As much as I’d love for you to do that, there is another reason I need you here.”

“Oh, why?”

“I’ll tell you when you get here. Just so you know, we’ll get to the tongue thing tonight. Love you.” With that, he disconnects the call.

I flop onto my back. Covering my rapidly beating heart with my hands, I sigh with happiness. I’ll never tire of hearing Finn tell me he loves me. Once he opened up and let those words out, he hasn’t stopped telling me. He’s giving me his all. And I’m giving him…secrets.

The smile on my face drops as guilt once again plagues me, smothering the feelings of elation. I’m not giving himmyall. Not when I have a secret hanging over my head like a dark cloud. I can’t keep it to myself anymore. Not if I want an open and honest relationship with Finn. I need to tell him soon and hope it doesn’t shatter his heart. I pray he’ll forgive me for keeping it from him.

At Alessi’s, I duck into Tamara’s office before meeting up with Finn. She’s sitting at her desk, typing something on the computer. When she sees me, she smiles and gestures for me to take a seat. “Has Finn convinced you to come back?”

“No, although he called me here. Has something happened? Does this have anything to do with Bianca and Matteo?” Surely not, Finn would have sounded pissed on the phone if it had anything to do with them.

Tamara clasps her hands together and places them on the desk. “Everything’s good. Especially now that Bianca’s gone, the office is a much happier place. Like it usually is when she’s working in London. Thank God the wicked witch is dead.”

“I’m glad things are back to normal.” I peer out the door to the hallway that leads to my desk. Apart from dealing with Bianca, I loved working at Alessi’s. Being surrounded by such beauty had unearthed my love for fashion again.

“You can always come back.” Tamara must have picked up on my longing. “With Bianca gone we could use the help. I’m looking for another PA for Finn. The job’s yours if you want it.”

“As tempting as that sounds, you know it’s a bad idea. I want to enroll in a fashion design course again.”

“That’s wonderful. If design is what you want to do, I’m sure Finn can help—”

“No. I want to do this on my own and not get any special assistance because I’m Finn Alessi’s girlfriend.”

“Good for you.” Tamara smiles encouragingly.

Starting again after all these years is scary. Yet excitement also drums through my body. Can I do it? I’ll never know unless I try. Where I enroll will depend on where I’m living. Will it be New York or London? Either will be amazing. I’ll have to research schools in London just in case.

Finn pops his head inside the door. “I heard you were here. Do you want more time with Tamara, or are you done?” His gaze flicks between the both of us.

“I’m done.” I rise. “If you have time, do you want to have lunch?” I ask Tamara.

“I’d love to. Come back when you’ve finished with Finn,” she says.

Finn holds out a hand for me to take. I hesitate for a moment. What will people say? Then it hits me. I don’t work at Alessi’s anymore. Finn isn’t my boss. If I want to hold his hand, there’s nothing stopping me. I lace our fingers together and follow him to his office. My old co-workers greet me with friendly waves and hellos.

Once in the office, Finn closes the door behind us. Sliding his arms around my waist, he tugs me to him and kisses me. “I miss you,” he mumbles against my lips.

I giggle. “I saw you a few hours ago.”

“Still too long.” He tunnels his fingers through my hair and deepens the kiss, his tongue sweeping into my mouth. “I can’t get enough of you.” He groans against my mouth with frustration. “But this is going to have to wait until tonight.” Reluctantly, he pulls away.
