He looks angry. “A witch hunt.”

“Please tell us the nature of your relationship during the year you taught her in medical school.”

“I was her professor. She was my student. That’s it. That was the extent of our relationship.”

“Did you date during that time?”

“No, we did not.”

“Did you see her outside of classes?”

“I saw her in the lab, in the hallways, and at other school related activities?”

“I mean did you see her outside of school?”

“I briefly ran into her once and only once. It was accidental. It wasn’t planned.”

“Are you saying that you did not have a sexual relationship with Dr. Lawrence when she was your student?” Aunt Cass goes to stand up, but I look at her and shake my head.

“I did not.” They all look confused.

“At any point from the day classes began that year, until the final day of class, did you have a sexual relationship with Dr. Lawrence?

“No, I did not.”

“Were you attracted to her in that same timeframe?”

“She’s an objectively beautiful woman. I doubt anyone, including yourselves, could possibly say you have no attraction to her.”

“So, is that a yes?”

“Yes, I was, am, and always will be, attracted to Dr. Lawrence.”

“We understand that you moved away for a period of just over two years. Did you have any contact with Dr. Lawrence during that time.”

“I didn’t contact her at all.”

“Did she contact you?”

“She texted me twice. Once to see how I settled in, and once approximately a year later to let me know she had researched the clinical and was quite impressed by it.”

“You didn’t respond?”

“No, I did not.”

“What were your thoughts on Dr. Lawrence as a student?”

“That she was brilliant. She was easily the most intelligent person in her class. I wasn’t the only professor to hold that opinion of her.” He looks back toward Dr. Powers and she smiles in the affirmative.

“When did you first begin a sexual relationship with Dr. Lawrence?”

He hesitates for a moment. He looks back at me and I nod. “In September. Nearly four years ago.” The panel members look at one another in confusion.

“Dr. Cooper, you said that you didn’t have a sexual relationship with her while she was your student.”

“I didn’t.”

“So, when exactly did the sexual relationship begin?”
