“No name, only an address.”

“I’ll work on it when we get back to the hotel.”

“And what did you find?” he asked, pushing between the seats again.

“Video footage of men going to Michael’s house around the time Carolyn disappeared. I’ll send the images to Dash when we get back.”

“No need, my little Rae of sunshine. I assumed you would need your equipment, so I packed it on the plane. Aren’t I the best?”

I desperately wanted to turn around and punch him, but he did bring my equipment, so I would let it slide this time.

“Was there any other correspondence on that message?” Duke asked.

“Nope, that was it. He either wised up or never got a response.”

“Probably the first,” I muttered.

The hotel was on the far end of the city, giving us plenty of distance between Michael and us. Normally, being closer to the target was a good thing, but in this instance, I was happy to be further away. With his connections, I didn’t want to wave a flag at him, letting him know where we were. As it was, we were too far from OPS to call for help in an instant.

Scottie had already checked us in under one of OPS’s aliases, so we walked right up to the hotel suite and knocked on the door. When it swung open, I was surprised to see he’d already set everything up. Our hotel suite now looked like the base of operations on one of our missions. Since this wasn’t a paying job, I hadn’t expected Cash to go all out, but I was grateful we had the additional space.

“What did you find out?”

“We have a face and an email address,” I said, tossing my jacket on the bed.

“Cash called. Apparently, Tahlia is in the clear now.”

I pulled my hair up out of my face and tied it up on top of my head. “That’s surprising. The police were going to charge her and suddenly all charges are dropped?”

“And right before Cash called Johnny, Johnny received a text that it was finished.”

I pulled out a chair and sat down in exasperation. “So, it was from Rafe.”

“Looks that way.”

“He’s got his hands in everything.”

“Hey!” Fox shouted from the kitchenette. “Where are the Funyuns?”

“Top cabinet,” Scottie shouted. “Stupid fucker. He didn’t have to kidnap me. I would have come along.”

“No, you wouldn’t have. You hate flying.”

“Yeah, I would have gladly flown commercial,” Duke said, taking his own seat.

“Commercial sucks,” Scottie muttered. “But I wouldn’t say no to finding another pilot so I could enjoy the flight and not get airsick.”

“Yeah, I don’t think Cash is gonna go for that.”

I got to work on running the email address. When that was done, I moved on to the facial recognition program.

“What can I do?” Duke asked.

I wished I had something for him, but unfortunately, until we had more information, there wasn’t much to do.

Fox walked over, eating his bag of Funyuns, holding them out to Duke. Thankfully, he shook his head. Fox was nice enough to offer, but he didn’t actually intend on sharing. “If you want, you can come with me. I thought I’d go check out Michael’s office. It’s closing soon. We should be able to slip inside.”

“Whoa,” I said, standing immediately. “You are not taking Duke with you.”
