“Great reasoning,” I muttered.

“Hey, it’s better than your reason for fucking her.”

“Yeah, but I didn’t fly off to Vegas and marry her.”

He grimaced at that. “I still say it’s your fault. You’re the one who hooked me up with her.”

“You were supposed to distract her so I could leave. Not fly off to Vegas and put a ring on her finger.”

He sighed, rubbing his hand over his jaw. “I just need to find someone else for her to fall in love with.”

I chuckled in amusement. “That should be easy. Just find her anything with a dick and money.”

“You know anyone?”

“Yeah, you. Why do you think I shoved you at her?”

“I really fucking hate you,” he bit out. “When do you get out of here?”

“Why? Are you worried about me?”

“No, I’m wondering how much longer I have to run the garage. Married life is kicking my ass.”

“Maybe another day. I don’t know. Rae handles all that shit.”

His lips quirked up. “So, you finally got the girl.”

“I had the girl before this happened.”

“Yeah,” he grinned, his voice brimming with amusement, “but the way you took one for her really sealed the deal.”

“Or it was my winning personality.”

He thought about it for a moment. “Nah, it can’t be that.”

“Probably not,” I conceded.

“So, it all worked out?”

“I think so. I found out what happened to Theo, so I guess that’s all wrapped up.”

“And you’re sure that’s what you want? I mean, walking away must be hard. There was a time you thought he was yours.”

“But he’s not.”

“You still have a room set up for him,” he pointed out. “I’m just asking, are you really prepared to walk away?”

I’d had a lot of time to think about this. I was good with my decision. “I think I held onto his shit to remind myself what an asshole I was. Even if the kid wasn’t mine, I should have kept an eye on him.”

“You can’t beat yourself up over the past. It’s time to move on and live your life.”

“About that,” I grinned, “I’m planning on asking Rae to move in with me.”

“Seriously? That’s fucking awesome. We’ll be like the three musketeers.”

“Uh—”

“Just think, we can have game nights and parties at the house.”
