Andi stared at it a moment before pinning another paper on the board. “And this is Craig’s timeline. I don’t have the exact days, but this should be the right order, based on his podcast.”

Craig’s Timeline:

Talked to Henry.

Talked to oldest daughter, Miriam.

Talked to Joe Prospector.

Talked to man at church. Learned Henry was in debt.

Talked to Wray Biggs, Henry’s business competitor, who just happened to be in Alaska at the time of the murder. Craig discovered this discrepancy.

Talked to mistress of church guy.

Played with theory that Henry hired killer for life insurance.

Unaccounted-for time period—probably when Craig found his final clue.

Andi had circled—in red ink—that last section with the unaccounted-for time period.

That was the key, wasn’t it?

“Good job, Andi.” Duke nodded slowly as he continued to study it. “Somewhere on that timeline we might have our answer.”

Andi felt a rush of delight go through her at his compliment.

“Thanks,” she finally said. “But first, we have to figure out what we’re missing.”

Everyone tooka break to grab a drink and snacks after their brainstorming session.

Except Duke.

He found his way to Andi and paused beside her. “Good work back there.”

Her cheeks seemed to flush with satisfaction as she glanced away from the murder board and up at him. “Thanks. We did good work. Am I right?”

“Most definitely.”
