But she couldn’t have it both ways. She couldn’t spy on Victor and stay here with the Arctic Circle Murder Club.

Right now, she had no choice but to stay.

So she might as well make the best of it.

But she’d be lying if she didn’t say she was disappointed.

chapterforty-seven

That evening,Simmy fixed some baked salmon glazed with honey, served over sliced potatoes with asparagus on the side. The food was delicious. As they ate, everyone threw out theories and questions.

Duke remained quiet, listening for several minutes.

He had to admit they all made a decent team. Mariella’s knowledge of social media was definitely beneficial. Matthew’s computer skills had also proved to be an asset. Andi had excellent critical thinking skills. Ranger knew the area and the culture. Simmy interacted with many people coming and going. Trooper Gibson had left for the evening, but he had given them some helpful information as well.

And Duke? Well, he hoped he was offering something else.

At least, he felt like they were on the right track.

He’d called Tommy earlier, and the man had promised to see what he could find out about that deeded property.

It might be a start.

As he was eating, his phone buzzed.

He glanced at the screen and saw a text from Andi.

A picture.

He opened it and saw it was a photo of her food.

He looked up and saw her watching his reaction.

They both exchanged a smile, and he chuckled.

She’d remembered.

After dinner, they all decided they could use a breather. Simmy pulled out some playing cards and made some popcorn. They all sat around the table and played games.

It was a nice break from the intensity of the day.

Finally, it was time for bed. Duke hadn’t gotten much sleep last night, and he knew he could use some rest. So could everyone else.

He wasn’t sure what tomorrow would hold. But maybe it would bring them answers.

Or maybe they would all go their separate ways.

Maybe talking about Henrietta’s and Craig’s murders was just a time passer for everyone else here. But it wasn’t for him. Duke didn’t think it was for Andi either. She seemed invested.

Of course, it helped that their lives were on the line right now.

They had a personal stake in figuring out who did this.

But would they find answers before he struck again?

* * *

Just like last night, Andi lay in bed wide awake.
