I snicker at his bad pick up line. “Yourinterestcould get you arrested if directed at the wrong girl.”

“Then it’s a good thing I’ve got the right one, baby.” He winks and I laugh. I can’t hold it in anymore. Marks’ ridiculous lines are all part of his charm and I find it endearing. He steps towards me, taking my bag from my shoulder, throws it onto the trunk of my car. Grabbing my hand, he pulls me over to his truck where he drops the tailgate and lifts me onto it. He leans his right hip against it, facing me. “How was the remainder of practice?”

I eye him and he’s got a smug grin. I know he’s waiting for me to fight back about how he just manhandled me, forcing me to stay and talk with him. Honestly? I didn’t mind it one bit, but I can’t give in so easily.

“It went well. Great, actually. They’re a talented group of girls. I got lucky walking onto this team.”

“I think they’re the lucky ones.” He stares intently at me and I drop my eyes. “Don’t look away. I’m serious, Mackenzie. No lines. I watched you coaching them and you’re really special. You have a natural ability to make people feel good about themselves while still correcting and teaching them. That’s an excellent trait, especially for a coach.”

His words warm me from the inside. I’m not used to hearing praise, and when I do receive it, I let it roll off my shoulders. I don’t coach for recognition. I do it because I love inspiring the girls and letting them know they’re not just a cute chick in a skirt. Being a cheerleader takes hard work. Dedication. Athletic ability that’s innate, and a strong spirit that isn’t easily broken. None of that can be taught, you either have it, or you don’t.

“Thanks, Mark. I appreciate hearing that. More than you know.”

He moves in front of me, placing his hands on my knees and spreading my legs, never once taking his eyes from mine. My lips part and my breath catches from just his touch alone. His lips twist as he tries to hide the smirk that’s formed from watching my reaction. He steps between my legs and leans down close, placing his hands on either side of my hips, on the truck. Then he makes an exaggerated show of looking over his shoulder, around mine and to the side.

I huff out a laugh. “What are you doing?”

“I’m making sure there are no police around.”

“Why?”

“Because I’m about to steal your heart.” He leans in and captures my lips. He’s got me caged in, with his hands on either side of me. It feels protective and strong. I deepen the kiss and run my hands along his forearms, essentially holding onto him as I push back. He moans into the kiss and the sound only intensifies my want for this man. He moves his hands onto my thighs, kneading and rubbing as I wrap my legs around his thighs and pull him closer to me, as much as the tailgate allows.

I entwine my arms around his neck and pull myself even closer to him. I feel so small compared to Mark, and even though he initiated, I know I'm one hundred percent in control here. It’s a dynamic that I haven’t felt before. He makes me feel so desired, so needed but always at my pace. I pull myself to the end of the tailgate, needing to feel him against my core. I shamelessly arch into him, desperate for any contact I can get and when I connect, I gasp. I knew Mark would be big everywhere but this is intimidating. He kisses down my neck and growls in my ear, “You are so goddamn sexy. I need you, Mackenzie.” Our heads turn and our lips meet again.

“Wait. Mark.” He instantly pulls away, and I feel the loss, though he is still touching me, rubbing his forehead against mine, then kissing the top of my head. Our breathing becomes regulated and our eyes meet, both wide. We both break into a smile and laugh.

“Fuck, I feel like a teenager again.”

I laugh along with him, nodding my head, letting out another breath. “I don’t think I’ve ever feltthatas a teenager.” I nod to the impressive bulge he’s still sporting.

He stands tall and smoothes down his shirt. “When ya got it, ya got it.” I roll my eyes, pushing him away from me. He captures my hands, pulling me against him and lifts me off the truck, placing me steadily on my feet.

He notices me glancing around the lot, making sure no one has snuck up on us while we were so engrossed in each other. “Don’t worry, I made sure to blur the angles on the lot's security cameras. No one will see us.”

“Mark, I’m sorry, it’s not you.”

“Mackenize, It’s fine, I understand your reservations. Come on, time to get out of here.” I reluctantly pull away and he rounds my car to open my door. “Be careful going home. I’ll call you later.” He gives another quick kiss as I slink into my seat and start my car. Driving home I realize how careless I was for getting caught up in the act. I could have cost us both our jobs.

MACKENZIE

“Come on, no one will see us. I promise.”

I hate that he even has to say that right now and that it's quickly becoming our go to statement every time we get together. It’s not fair to him that I’m not opening up. But it’s not a big deal yet, right? We’re only having fun. I don’t think Mark is capable of more than that, so I’m safe as far as this being everlasting. But is my heart safe? Ialmostlike this guy. I can’t let myself get attached. Dad would never allow it.

After his little show at the field yesterday, I got a text.

Mark:

I think you’re suffering from a lack of Vitamin Me.
