He’s corny and doesn’t even make sense sometimes, but it made me smile. It’s obvious he’s thinking about me as much as I’m thinking about him. So I agreed to another date.

He takes my hand, and we walk to the sidewalk. He opens the passenger door of his pickup truck and helps me inside. When I reach for my seatbelt, he’s still right next to me. He’s so tall we’re eye to eye and about an inch apart. My breath catches and my lips part. He tracks every move. Then he reaches up, covering my hand with his and pulls the belt across my chest, brushing my breasts as he goes, never taking his eyes from mine, and clicks the belt into place.

“Perfect fit.” His lips contort as he tries to hide his smirk, but winks as he backs away from me. He shuts the door and I let out the breath I didn’t realize I was holding. This man is like no other.

I watch him jog around the front of the truck and hop into the driver’s seat.

“Miss me?”

I sigh. “Yes, all twelve seconds were hard to stand.”

“My twelve seconds of hard, will leave you unable to stand.”

I burst out laughing. “Twelve seconds? That’s all you got?”

“That’s all I need, Tink.” He puts the truck into drive and pulls away from the curb.

“I’m pretty sure I need more than twelve seconds.”

“Okay, you don’t have to beg me. I’ll double it, just for you.”

We chuckle together, and it’s nice. There is a comfortable silence, no show that needs to be displayed. Mark is easy to talk with and even easier to be with.

“So, I thought we could catch a movie on the other side of town. A scary movie in a dark theatre, just you and me. Think of all the possibilities.”

“You’re rather sure of yourself, aren’t you? Thought you weren’t a player?”

“I’m not a player, doesn’t mean I don’t know how to play the game.”

“Oh? Do tell.”

“If you insist, Ms. West.” He draws out my name and I like the way it sounds rolling off his lips. “I can wine and dine with the best of them. I’ll take you anywhere you want to go, do anything you want. I’ll put you first, make you feel like a queen. Difference between me and the player, though? I expect nothing in return. I genuinely want people to feel good being with me. So, if that means I make you laugh with my stupid lines, good. If I make you forget about the stress of a bad workday, even better.”

“That’s it? That’s all you get from it? A simple smile, laugh or thank you and you’re happy?”

We approach a red light and when we come to a stop; he turns towards me with a gaze that is heated. “No, I’m not always happy with just that. I’m a man, Mackenzie. I have needs like everyone else. But I’ll never force myself if you’re not feeling me. I wantmywoman to want me just as much, if not more. I want her to tell me she needs me to take her right now. No matter where we are. She needs my hands on her. In her. She can’t wait. I wantthatkind of passion.”

He reaches across and caresses my cheek, ending at my chin, and gently pushes up. I watch his lips twist to the side as I realize my mouth is hanging open. “You liked that, didn’t you?”

I swallow hard. “Ye-yes. P-passion. I agree.” He’s got me so flustered I’m stuttering.

The light changes and he takes off down the road again. “No, the talk. You like to be spoken to?” He casts another glance my way with a devilish gleam in his eye.

“Do I like to be spoken to? Of course. That’s how conversation goes, isn’t it?”

He chuckles in his seat. “Oh, Mackenzie. The things I’m going to teach you.”

My heart races at that sentence. I’m excited, I’m nervous. He makes me feel.

I want him to teach me everything.

We exit the theatre some time later. The sun has set, and the evening is upon us. It’s a gorgeous night and being with Mark is making it that much better. I’m enjoying strolling along, his hand in mine. It feels right.

“Want to go down to the water?”

“Sure.”
