She chuckled. “Ready when you are.”

“I’m ready now.” He stopped just as the music ended.

Remy stepped back and turned toward the dock.

“Oh, there’s Gisele,” Shelby said. “I’ll be right back. I’m going to ask her where the Fontenots keep their boats.”

Before he could stop her, Shelby darted after Gisele, leaving him standing alone in the middle of the yard, another sensuous song kicking off.

Hands slid up his back, over his shoulders and down his sides into his pockets, stroking his erection. “Hey, handsome,” a woman’s voice sounded in his ear.

Not Shelby’s.

He stepped forward. The hands in his pockets slipped out.

He spun to face a woman with dark skin, wavy black hair and brown eyes, a smirky smile curving her bright red lips.

Her smile widened slightly, her eyelids drooping. “Where have you been all my life?” She stalked him, closing the short distance between them in two steps. Then she lay her hand on his chest and slid it lower. “Someone got you all hot and bothered?” Her hand shot lower, cupped his package and squeezed.

He jumped back, knocking her hand away. “I don’t know who you are, but I’m not interested.”

“Too wrapped up trying to get into the pretty deputy’s panties to see what you could have instead?” She advanced again, reaching up to curve her hand around his cheek.

“Beat it, Lissette,” a different woman’s voice sounded from behind Remy. Gisele Gautier stepped up on his left. “He’s taken.”

“You heard him,” Shelby said, coming up on Remy’s other side. “He’s not interested.” She slid her hand into Remy’s.

His lips twitched. He turned, tipped Shelby’s chin up and brushed his lips across hers. “Hey, beautiful.”

Shelby wrapped an arm around his neck and slid her calf up the back of his thigh.

Lissette snorted. “He’s not my type anyway.”

A moment later, Gisele said, “She’s gone.”

Maybe she was, but Remy wasn’t finished kissing Shelby.

When he finally came up, he stared down into her eyes. “Ready to go?”

“Very,” she said, her voice gravelly.

“You don’t want to ask anyone else anything? Or grab something to eat?” he teased.

“No. We have food at my house.” She took his hand and headed for the dock, calling over her shoulder. “Bye, Gisele.”

“Bye, Shell,” Gisele called out. “Don’t forget protection.”

Shelby led him to the boat they’d rented from Mitch for the night and waited for him to get in first. Then she untied the line, took his hand and stepped into the boat.

As Shelby settled in the seat beside his, Remy turned the boat around and headed back to the marina. He couldn’t get there soon enough. And they still had to drive to her house from there.

Had she put on an act for Lissette? Or did Shelby really want more than just a kiss tonight?

As he maneuvered the boat through the bayou, she reached her hand out and laid it on his thigh, squeezing gently, sending a flash of heat straight to his groin.

Yeah, baby, things just might get hot tonight.

He’d just rounded a bend in the bayou where a cypress tree hung low over the water, blocking his view ahead. As he cleared the low-hanging branches, something flashed in the corner of his eye. On instinct, he jerked the steering wheel to the right.
