“I intend to.”

“What is it?”

“It’s a surprise for after the party. But I’ll give you a hint. It says, ‘kitten’ on it.”

Kat halts, pulling me to a stop, and frowns for a moment, then her eyes widen. “You did not…” Her mouth falls open.

I laugh loudly. “Yep.”

“Kitten? Seriously? I was joking, Arch!” She frowns. “Nah. Did you really?”

“Well,Iwasn’t joking.”

I did get her the gun she wanted. Yep, encrusted with white diamonds and red rubies, because, well, red is her color. And yes, it says ‘kitten’ in gold-plated letters. And yes, this woman makes me do silly things.

“Archer!” She swings her arms around my neck. “You’re so fucked up! I love it!”

We both laugh loudly, our chests shaking against each other.

She pulls back right away, her eyes wide in excitement. “Can we go home real quick to look at it?”

“No.”

“Just a quick peek! Please-please-please?”

I know her theatrics by now. “Shh, no. It’s your restaurant opening night.”

She wrinkles her nose in disappointment, but I can tell she’s happy. We stand under a street light for a moment, our eyes not leaving each other, and she says the one thing I’d never expect from Kat:

“Maybe we should’ve done a small romantic dinner tonight instead. Just you and I.”

I brush my thumb against her cheek, and she leans into it, her eyes fluttering closed just for a moment.

We have a lot of people and friends waiting for us, but the fact that she always chooses me makes my heart melt. This affectionate sparkle in her eyes will soon change into a mischievous one, but the way she looks at me right now is meant only for me. Her feelings shine through her eyes so powerfully that they assault me like a tsunami wave. I’m the only one who knows that Kat—Kat in love.

I smile and kiss her temple.

“They are waiting,” I say softly. “Shall we?”

And we start walking.

In a moment, Kat will return to that flirty-sassy self that she shows others.

I’m the only one who gets to see all sides of her. It’s a privilege.

Kat is the madness that keeps me on my toes but lets me finally sleep peacefully at night when she’s in my arms.

She is the serpent that constantly seduces me with crazy ideas and the sweetest apple I bite into, learning something new every day, even if it leads me to ruin.

Sheismy ruin, wrecking me with her passion at night. And she rebuilds my strength every day, when she looks softly into my eyes and says, “You are the strongest man I know.” Not the richest, not the smartest, but the strongest.

With her, I feel I can part oceans and move mountains. And I’ll do it for her in the blink of an eye.

She is the softest silk and the sharpest dagger. Ukrainian, Puerto Rican, and the whole world in between. A world so diverse that it makes my head spin.

Yet, when she snuggles up to me at night, I can hold that entire world in my arms.
