He catches my moan in his mouth, and moves me backward, pressing my back to the wall of the shower.

And I completely surrender.

CHAPTERTWENTY-EIGHT

One of my hands tightly grasps Jaxon’s knee, and the other grips the edge of the couch. My stomach drops from the obscene amount of turbulence we’ve been experiencing for the last ten minutes. Squeezing my eyes shut, I try to focus on happy thoughts to distract myself.

Watching the sunset at the beach. The scent of a coffee shop. The northern lights that I hope to see one day.

Puppies.

The aircraft sways unexpectedly, and my stomach turns over.

“Shit,” I squeal, digging my nails into his jeans.

Happy thoughts, happy thoughts.

“It will pass,” he reassures me, caressing my leg.

Shooting him a frazzled stare, I let out an irritated laugh. “How are you so calm?”

“I’ve been through much worse.”

I sigh, shaking my head. “I will never get used to this.”

“To what?”

“Flying,” I grit out, taking in a deep breath. “I hate it. Why do you even have your own private jet?”

“Being a CEO requires frequent traveling.”

“I’d take a road trip any day over this.Thisis a nightmare,” I snarl, as the airplane slightly tilts sideways. “Shit!”

He lets out a laugh, and I gawk at him, baffled.

“You’re laughing at me,” I accuse. “This isn’t funny.”

“My apologies,” he replies, a smirk playing at his lips.

Playfully swatting his arm, I roll my eyes. “This is not a joke. I am literally terrified for my life right now.”

“You’re safe with me.”

“I appreciate that. But not for anything, you aren’t the pilot, and you surely have no control over this storm,” I press. “And it just makes it worse that it’s nighttime, so we can’t even see out the windows. We could be going down and we wouldn’t even know it.”

“I guess it’s better not knowing.”

My jaw drops at his dull sense of humor. “You’re insane.”

“If we are bound to crash, at least I can say that at the end of my life, I was a happy man.”

With that, my stomach flutters. My heart dances. I can’t help feeling giddy as I widely smile.

“That was so sweet,” I quietly say.

He wraps his arms around me, and holds me close. “You’re safe, Sasha.”

Staring into his eyes, my body relaxes, and my thoughts become calm. And just like that, I believe him.
