Our hands unlockas Jaxon brings me over to the stool. He walks around the bar and moves behind the black, granite counter, standing directly across from me. I watch him silently as he grabs two glasses, placing them between us.
His eyes find mine. “What can I get you?”
“Hmm.” I bite my bottom lip, skimming my eyes over the bottles of liquor behind him. “Anything that will get my mind off the fact that we’re still flying through a storm.”
“Mixed or straight?”
Arching an eyebrow, I smile. “Mixed? How about a sex on the beach?”
He nods, and before I know it, he slides the glass to me.
“I’m very impressed,” I playfully say, taking a small sip, admiring the sweetness. “How’d you know?”
Smirking, he pours whiskey into his glass. “I did some bartending on the side while I was in college.”
“You did?”
“I did.”
“For how long?”
“About two years,” he casually replies, appearing curious as he rests his arms on the counter. “What?”
“What?”
“That look.”
“I’m just intrigued by you,” I admit. “I still feel like I know so little about you. You don’t open up often.”
He finishes his drink, and begins to pour another, looking away. “I’m not used to it.”
“I want to know more.”
His shoulders tense, and his jaw tightens.
“Why does that bother you?” I quickly speak up.
“It doesn’t.”
“I saw you tense up. You don’t have to lie.”
Lifting his gaze, his eyes set on mine, and his face instantly softens. “It doesn’t bother me,” he says, resting his hand over mine. “I’m just not used to this.”
“Communication? But it’s in your contract.”
“This is far different, Sasha,” he replies, cautiously searching my eyes. “I never talk about myself. I’ve never done this before. Not recently, anyhow.”
“You have in the past?”
“I had a few relationships in high school and after I graduated. Although, they weren’t long term.”
I nod, stirring my drink with the straw. “Mine weren’t either, and it was years ago for me, too.”
