“That’s nice.”
“Sweetheart.” Jaxon’s voice catches me off guard. “This is Blake. Blake, this is Sasha.”
She frowns. “I thought you said her name was Louise?”
His face hardens.
Thinking fast, an idea comes to mind. “Some people call me Louise, my middle name, but I like Sasha better. How about you?”
Blake quietly giggles. “Me, too.”
“Thanks,” I say, smiling. “I’m so glad to finally meet you, Blake. I’ve heard so much about you.”
“You have?”
“I have.”
Meeting Jaxon’s gaze, he tucks a loose strand of hair behind my ear. My knees grow weak as he strokes my cheek with his thumb.
“Blake, could you show Sasha to the living area?” Lucy asks. “I’m going to grab some lemonade from the kitchen. Jaxon, will you help me get a few glasses for the four of us?”
“Of course,” he replies.
As soon as they’re out of sight, Blake takes my hand and leads me into the living room.
She sits on the couch, twirling a strand of her hair around her finger. “I love your dress, Sasha.”
Sitting beside her, I grin. “Thank you. I like yours better. Red is my favorite.”
“Mine, too!” She drops her attention to my hands on my lap, and appears to be examining something. “Where’s your ring?”
Oh, God.
Jaxon and his mother appear through the doorway, carrying a tall pitcher of lemonade along with four glasses.
“Would you like a glass?” Lucy politely asks.
“Yes, please. I’d love some.”
“Where is it, Sasha?” Blake repeats her question, holding up my hand to them.
My lips part, and I’ve become speechless.
“What?” he asks, noticing my uneasiness, and almost over-pouring my lemonade in the process.
“Her ring,” Blake dramatically sings, gazing up at him with curiosity. “It’s not on her finger.”
His jaw clenches tight, and a vein bulges in his neck.
“It’s being cleaned,” I unthinkingly blurt out. “You know Jaxon, always thinking of others.”
He arches an eyebrow at me, intrigued.
Lucy softly chuckles. “Well, isn’t he something. He’s always had such a big heart.”
Oh, Lucy.
That’s not the only big thing he has to offer.
