His eyes narrow, and study my face for a moment. “Would you like to reread the contract?”
“I’ve already read it.”
“Then, I’m assuming you’re comfortable with all the terms.” Placing down the pen, he sits back, resting his arms on the head of the couch. “Do you have any questions for me?”
“Comfortable is a strong word. No disrespect, Jaxon, but this is all new to me. None of this is exactly comfortable.”
“Then make the necessary changes where they are due.”
“You’re paying me one-hundred grand for this. I’m fine with the terms. I can handle it.”
Cocking his head to the side, he watches me silently, observing my every move.
“Are you on any form of birth control?” he asks.
“Yes.”
“What kind?”
“The pill,” I say, chewing on my lip. “And I take it like clockwork.”
“Great. I’ll arrange for STD testing sometime tomorrow.”
“Oh?”
“A blood test.”
“Okay. For you, too?”
There’s a gleam in his eyes. “Of course,” he says.
Listening to the calming melody of the music from the record player, it’s not long before my nerves begin to take over.
He leans forward once more, removing another document from a manila folder. “I’ve printed out another contract.”
“For?”
Handing it to me, he stands. “It’s a payment agreement, regarding our financial arrangement, legally binding me to my word.”
Reading it over, my mouth falls open. “If I’m reading this correctly, then after the six months end, that’s when I’ll receive the full amount.” Releasing a long breath, my heart races. “I wonder how much that is monthly.”
“Roughly seventeen-thousand.”
My eyes widen, and I shoot him a dazed stare. “Seriously?”
“You get five thousand tomorrow.”
“Subtracted from the one-hundred thousand?”
“No,” he says, slipping his hands into his pants pockets. “It’s a signing bonus.”
Wow, what an incredible incentive.
“By check?”
“Cash,” he nonchalantly replies. “Sign it.”
Without hesitating for another second, I sign my name on the line and date it. After fully understanding how legitimate this is, I am ecstatic, yet utterly terrified of the unknown.
