My best friend begins to cry.

And I cry with her.

“We deserve so much more,” she mutters, sniffling. “We deserve better than this. You deserve better than this, especially after everything you’ve been through.”

“Do you want me to send you some money?”

“I’m okay,” she tells me. “God, I love you.”

“I love you, too, Natalie.”

Our test resultscome back clean the very next day, and before I know it, one week has already passed.

The arrangement between Jaxon and I has slightly changed since our first encounter in the playroom. I’ve given in completely to the role of being his Submissive.

My determination has been strong, stronger than I ever would have thought possible. The amount of money I’ll be entitled to after this contract ends has me on my very best behavior.

Although, I’ve accepted my new position as his Submissive with ease, tensions have never been higher between us.

The chemistry we have has been more than challenging. It’s that magnetic pull I feel when I’m with him, the feeling he gives me when he looks in my eyes.

I just can’t seem to shake it off.

Jaxon spends most of his time at work, in meetings, or in his office, while I handle my responsibilities around the house accordingly. Cleaning, cooking, and being ready for whatever he asks of me at his convenience.

It’s been a drastic change in my life, although deep down, I know that this will all be worth it.

We have not spent any time with his family, not since the first day I met them. When we get invited out to dinner with his mother, I am ecstatic to get out of the house.

A change of scenery is much needed.

Striding into the kitchen in my red dress, with my matching heels and lipstick, I am confident. I am eager to play my role as Jaxon Edward’s fiancée, the love of his life.

When I step further into the room, I happen to spot a black briefcase on the counter. Jaxon turns around, and when he notices my unexpected appearance, there’s this look on his face.

I sigh, discouraged. “It’s too much, isn’t it?”

His fiery eyes meet mine. “No,” he vaguely replies.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

My cheeks become flushed, and there’s a spark in the air. His lips part, and his gaze has never been so profound.

“Then why are you looking at me like that?”

“Because,” he says, guarded. “You’re strikingly beautiful.”

My heart beats wildly, untamed. I sheepishly grin.

“I’ve booked reservations for a prestigious restaurant downtown. I hope it meets any expectations you may have,” he says, zipping open the briefcase, shuffling through several papers. “It’s actually my mother’s favorite.”

“I’m excited.”

“She should be here at any minute.”
