“Most certainly not,” Jaxon agrees. “Although, once we start kissing, you can never get us to stop. Right, Sash?”

He pulls me close and leans down, pressing a soft, lingering kiss against my lips. My heart hammers and my stomach turns. I was not prepared for this. Jaxon promised that we would never kiss again.

He wraps his arm around my waist and holds me closer to his body, and everything begins to spin far beyond my control.

Suddenly, this moment truly registers in my brain. This man has the audacity to kiss me, after he destroyed me.

How dare him.

Immediately pulling away, our lips part, and I bolt out of the room.

CHAPTERSEVENTEEN

Adrenaline courses through me, pumping nitrous through my veins. My heart begins pounding, my body trembles, and I find it nearly impossible to breathe. Allowing in small, careful breaths, I rest my palm against the wall to keep me balanced.

Loud footsteps sound from behind my shoulder, until I’m pressed up against the wall of the dining room. Jaxon’s eyes glare into mine, silently screaming at me, demanding an answer. Although, I have no answer. I’ve made a scene in front of his sisters and I am speechless as to what I could possibly say.

“What the fuck,” he harshly whispers, shaking my shoulders as if to snap me out of it. “What was that?”

“You kissed me,” I murmur.

“Oh, did I?” he humors me, enraged. His sharp jawline clenches shut, twitching.

“And, I didn’t know how to respond.”

“So, you run out of the room like a chicken with its head cut off?” He growls, releasing an exasperated breath. “Do you have any idea what you’ve just done?”

My eyes widen with innocence. “I don’t know.”

“Sasha,” he groans, his grip on my shoulders tightening. I flinch from the pressure, and he immediately releases me. “What the fuck were you thinking? You can’t just push me away and make a run for it when I kiss you in front of my sisters. You could have destroyed our arrangement. They could call us out on our fake engagement right now, if they really think everything through. I can’t believe you had the nerve to do something so ignorant, so illogical—”

“You told me that we would never kiss again,” I shakily state, welcoming anger. “And then you kissed me, Master—”

“Jesus,” he groans, pressing his finger against my quivering lips, anxiously glancing around the room. “Jaxon. It’s Jaxon, Sasha. What are you thinking? What is the matter with you?”

My heart thumps hard. “I don’t know,” I whisper.

“Come here.” He takes my hand, practically dragging me into the bathroom with him as he closes the door. Our eyes meet, and it’s more than obvious he’s boiling with rage. “You’ve vomited. You have the stomach bug. It came on suddenly.” He flushes the toilet, I’m assuming for sound effects.

“Yes, Mas—”

He glares at me, his eyes staring dangerously into mine.

“I’m sorry,” I quietly say, dropping my gaze to my wobbling legs. “I feel like I’m going to pass out.”

“Christ,” he breathes, reaching me in a split second, holding me against him. “Calm down. This is absurd.”

My head becomes light, and my vision is fuzzy. I’m suddenly seeing stars, gripping the front of his suit for dear life to keep myself upright.

Finally, my breathing starts to slow, and the small room around us ceases to spin. Without the slightest bit of warning, there’s a knock upon the door.

“Jaxon?” Crystal asks from the other side.

“Yes, we’re in here. Sasha got sick. We should be out soon,” he explains, sounding smooth, and honest.

There’s a gasp. “Oh, no,” Blake sadly whines.

“That’s awful. Take your time, guys,” Crystal coos.
